Rick Dudley, General Manager of the Atlanta Thrashers, announced Monday that the Thrashers have signed free agent forward Fredrik Modin to a one-year deal. The deal will see Modin earn $800,000 plus bonuses. Can Modin add the extra push the Thrashers need to make the playoffs this year? Modin, 35, split time between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Los Angeles Kings last season, recording five goals and six assists in 44 games. He also added three goals and one assist in six playoff games with the Kings. In 858 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings, Modin has posted 225 goals and 227 assists for 452 points. A native of Sundsvall, Sweden, the left wing posted his highest point total in 2005-2006 with the Tampa Bay Lightning. He also won a Stanley Cup as a member of the Lightning in 2003-04.
