During the regular season,where the Rangers were 18-2-1 when striking first, the tally by Carl Hagelin with just over three minutes remaining in the first period would have been enough to assume a Rangers victory. However, in last night’s Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, it was the only goal the Rangers scored and gave the Washington Capitals a 1-0 series lead.
After allowing the most dangerous power play unit to start working just 34 seconds into the first period, the Rangers dodged a bullet and Henrik Lundqvist saved all four shots he faced on the bench minor to New York for having too many men on the ice. The Capitals didn”t give up though and luckily for New York, neither would Lundqvist.
