Despite blowing a three goal lead, the Rangers topped the Bruins in a shootout last night. The New York Rangers made it very interesting, but pulled out their third straight win in Boston last night. The Rangers blew a three goal lead in the third period but salvaged the win in the shootout. After goals by Hagelin, Stepan and Stralman the Rangers had all the momentum going into the third period, but gave up two goals in the final minute of the game to send the game to overtime. Henrik Lundqvist was stellar in net the entire game, and it really wasn’t on him that Boston was able to tie the game; it was more about the Rangers not being able to get the puck out of their own zone. The Rangers are now five points behind the Devils who are 1st in the conference with 19 points, and they are currently in the 8th spot in a very tight conference. We are now 12 games into the season and the Rangers are starting to look like the team that finished 1st in the Eastern Conference last season.  The...

Musings; Rangers attack the Island edition

I am Nash. HEAR ME ROAR It’s Musings day. I’m in Germany as you read this  on a game day, so enjoy. Unfortunately the Islanders game is the first game I’ll not have caught live this year to any extent but I’m sure you’ll all cope without me. The Rangers win in Boston; if that finishes 3-0 then half of Ranger nation will be booking time off to attend the Cup parade. It...

Rangers pass the 12 game mark, time to review

The Rangers win in Boston marked the night we’ve been talking about since the Rangers opened the season with three losses in four games. Following those games, fans were ready to can Torts, trade Gabby and torch everything Glen’s built over the last few years. Premature panic compelled Dave to write an article titled, “One game does not make a season. I pleaded with people...

Rick Nash shows off some amazing moves en route to Carl Hagelin’s goal

This is the type of play that made the New York Rangers want Rick Nash so badly.  He singlehandedly made this goal possible with his display of sheer athleticism and awesome hands.  All Carl Hagelin had to do was put the puck in the empty net with all of the Boston Bruins defenseman pre-occupied with Nash.  If the Rangers can get their act together in time for the playoffs, they...

Scott Howson Fired as General Manager of Columbus Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One playoff appearance in more than five seasons wasn’t good enough for Scott Howson to keep his job as Columbus Blue Jackets general manager. Howson was fired Tuesday night by John Davidson, the club’s director of hockey operations. Since his hiring last summer, Davidson, who rebuilt the St. Louis Blues, has become the man with the most power in the front...

Rick Nash’s Sliding Assist to Carl Hagelin Earns Crown Royal Maple Smooth Finish (Video)

Rick Nash was everywhere for the Rangers on Tuesday. Before he fooled Tuukka Rask to score one of New York’s two shootout goals, Nash had an assist that would make NBA facilitator Steve Nash proud. The former Columbus Blue Jacket weaved his way through three Bruins defenders before dishing the puck to teammate Carl Hagelin while sliding on his chest, setting Hagelin up for the...

NHL Nightly Overtime – 2/12

Tonight’s action featured some great NHL GIFs of a great re-direct goal, a nasty assist, an insane coach, and more. Brayden Schenn of the Philadelphia Flyers opened the scoring against the Winnipeg Jets with a re-direct tip of the puck. The Flyers went on to win the game vs. the Jets by a final score of 3-2. Rick Nash of the New York Rangers with a beautiful assist, dangling through...

Could Miller just be a spark?

Will Miller be back in another jersey this season or not? JT Miller has been a pleasant surprise in his brief stay with the Rangers this season. His call up has coincided with (perhaps even caused) the re-emergence of the Rangers much anticipated offensive depth, and has caused players such as Brian Boyle to find themselves in the press box or with less prominent roles. Whether we...

Ty Anderson: Take Five: Bruins steal point against Lundqvist, Rangers

For about 58 and a half minutes, the New York Rangers were by and large the better hockey team in last night’s matchup against the Boston Bruins at the TD Garden. Jumping out to a 3-0 lead thanks to a first period goal by the speedy Carl Hagelin, a second period marker from Derek Stepan, and the softest goal you’ll see Tuukka Rask allow this year thanks to an Anton...

Seven Minutes of Poor Play leads to 4-3 Shootout loss for Blueshirts

Had it not been for a terrible span of seven minutes in the second period, the New York Rangers may have never lost 4-3 to the New York Islanders in a shootout at Madison Square Garden. After going up 2-0 in the first period, the Rangers stopped skating and allowed the Islanders to skate all over them for the first seven minutes. The result was three quick goals and the loss of...
