Oilers recalled Ryan O'Marra today. He's a checking center and a guy who has spent a lot of PK time in the minors. He's 20, 4-4-8 +5 but wasn't the callup of choice among Oiler fans. What happened?Teemu Hartikainen would have been my choice, but he's out 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury (by the way, Taylor Hall's injury is now 2 to 4 weeks). I mentioned the other day that there were several worthy candidates in OKC and the choice of O'Marra is curious based on box cars. Some possible reasons they recalled another checking C:This move was made as a reward for all the hard work. As you may remember, O'Marra spent a long time in the outhouse with this organization after coming over in the Ryan Smyth trade. The organization is serious about players spending years in OKC before getting a callup. This was a featured item in the first Oil Change episode this fall, the organization feeling they needed to impress on young players that the AHL was part of the pl...

Oilers Are Still Music To Some Ears

Nielson at the Team 1260 has posted “We Built This Smitty” a re-working of We Built This City by Starship.  In the words of Nielson “We figured that Ryan Smyth probably deserved his own song. G24 Predators at Oilers

This is Jimmy Page. Before the Yardbirds and before the New Yardbirds and before the session work he was just a kid trying to play Rumble. Everyone starts at the beginning. Taylor Hall's injury gives coach Renney a chance to shuffle the deck and elevate one of the bottom sixers into a feature role. Now, he sure doesn't want to (Hall's a better player than the men available...

Richard Cloutier: Is This the Man Who Wrecked the Buffet?

The Edmonton Oilers won the game but lost in OT. How is that possible, you ask? They actually won the game several times, but their goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin can't stop a puck to save his life in a shootout. Last season the Oilers left a number of points on the table because their goaltending can't seal a deal in overtime. This season looks like more of the same. Matthieu...

Barry Trotz Out Yet Another Win

Oilers lose 2-1 to Predators Monday night was Jordan Eberle mini-stick night in Rexall Place. The first 10,000 fans in attendance were given this collectable and much like Ryan Smyth bobblehead night, Eberle would be one of the most effective players on the team. Unfortunately, Eberle’s lone goal in the first period was not enough to earn an Oilers win. Continue reading "Barry...

Aaron Musick: Where to go from here?

Playing against a team 2-6-1 in its last nine, starting its winless backup goaltender, the Avs lost 3-1 and have now entered the realm of "where do we go from here?" Despite coming off a good 5-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers, the Avs floundered in this game, taking many shots from the boards and not driving for rebounds. On odd man rushes the players not with the...

Staubitz, Hordichuk set to re-engage; more discipline this time?

I can't imagine there are hordes of people outside of Minnesota and Edmonton waiting with baited breath for Wednesday night's tilt between the Wild and the Oilers, especially when there are games on the evening's schedule that appear far more entertaining. But there's at least one really good reason to watch this one instead. No, it's not Ryan-Nugent Hopkins...
