After six-game absence, Gordon returns for Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers will get veteran checking center Boyd Gordon back into the lineup when they take on the Canucks Friday in Vancouver, the club announced. Gordon, 30, has missed the last six games with a shoulder injury suffered during a game against Columbus on Nov. 29. Prior to getting hurt he was having a solid campaign for the Oilers, scoring five goals and 11 points in 27...

Oilers’ Sam Gagner painfully aware he has to lift his game

Sam Gagner is growing weary of having to peer through a face mask that’s still protecting his fractured jaw. But seeing himself centring the fourth line in Vancouver undoubtedly was even harder on the eyes — not only his, but also those of owner Daryl Katz, who’s paying him $4.4 million. That decision was made by coach Dallas Eakins, who hasn’t liked Gagner’s defensive...

Matt Henderson: G34 Oilers @ Canucks: Dubnyk Throws Away Another Game And Likely His Career

Devan Dubnyk is not an NHL starter. Last night’s game only cemented what the first month of the season had previously shown, Dubnyk cannot be trusted to play well. It’s a crying shame really because based on last season there was room for optimism concerning Dubnyk’s future. Now, however, not even 50% of the way through this season the pending UFA Goalie has erased...

Edmonton Oilers need only look at David Perron to learn how to play the ‘heavy’ teams

Wait ‘till next year? It’s been 13 years since the Edmonton Oilers have managed to beat the Boston Bruins. You have to go back to ‘Ought Ought.’ The year was 2000. “I never understand those stats,” said Oilers’ head coach Dallas Eakins. Forget the stats. What’s really hard to understand is the way the Oilers came out and were down 3-0 by the end of the first...

Luke Gazdic Says He Respects Milan Lucic, But Has ‘Wanted a Piece of’ Bruins Forward (Video)

The Edmonton Oilers had a rough first period Thursday night, and resident tough guy Luke Gazdic knew something had to change if his team was going to get back into the game. So Gazdic did what he’s known to do, and the big forward picked a fight. Gazdic, who stands at an intimidating 6-foot-4 and weighs in at 240 pounds, rang the bell of one of the league’s biggest and baddest...

Video- Kassian Incident, Bush-League Or Part Of The Game?

from Bruce McCurdy of The Cult of Hockey at the Edmonton Journal, The Canucks outclassed the Oilers in every aspect of the game, before “class” itself fell victim to a disgraceful display of poor sportsmanship by the Vancouverites. That came from Zach Kassian, who put yet another black eye on himself, his team, and his sport with some utterly bush-league taunting of Sam...

Blackhawks Get Jason LaBarbera For Pretty Much Nothing by   Steven Ellis

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have acquired goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the Edmonton Oilers in return for future considerations, or, as most hockey fans know, absolutely nothing. LaBarbera was originally selected by the Rangers in the third round, 66th overall, of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, and while he was impressive during his time in the American Hockey [...]

Nail Yakupov’s Progress

One story this season is disappointment regarding the progress of 2012 first overall draft pick Nail Yakupov.  He was the top scoring rookie in the lockout shortened 2013 season with 31 points.  There were questions about his defence but it was pretty clear that he could score.  Big things were expected for the 2013/14 season.  They haven't happened yet.  Through 32 games...

Could struggling Florida Panthers, Edmonton Oilers come together on a trade?

There is precious little to separate the teams in the NHL standings. Florida is 10-17-5 on the season, with 25 points through 32 games; Edmonton has the same totals off a slightly different 11-18-3 record. The Oilers play in a tougher conference and have leaned less on the shootout, so they may be the better team but neither of these clubs is likely to be anywhere near the post-season...
