Minnesota Wild right wing Cal Clutterbuck hasn't played since taking a knee-to-knee hit from the Edmonton Oilers' Taylor Hall less than two weeks ago. While the Wild may have been out for revenge Sunday night, they might not get a chance with Hall banged up, too. Minnesota tries for a 19th home win in 20 matchups against Edmonton, which could be without one of its top forwards due to a leg injury. Matt Cullen scored twice and added an assist as the Wild (10-8-2) pulled out a 3-1 road victory over the Oilers (8-8-4) on Feb. 21. Minnesota, which has outscored Edmonton 37-26 in going 11-2-0 since 2010-11, was upset with Hall's hit on Clutterbuck with 2:33 left in the game. Hall was given a major penalty for kneeing and ejected. He later received a two-game suspension from the league. "You hate to see those hits," Cullen said. "It was a fast play. I think it was deserving of the penalty. ... Cal is a very important part of our team. ... You hate to see a ...

Ryan Suter knocks puck into his own net

During the Minnesota Wild-Edmonton Oilers game, a strange play occurred where the puck bounced out in front of the net and was batted in by Ryan Suter.  Wild captain Mikko Koivu was trying to clear the puck out of the zone and he fired the puck off Oilers forward Sam Gagner’s skate.  The puck caromed off his skate and started fluttering in the air towards Suter.  Suter instinctively...

Wild at defensive best in Sunday's win

ST. PAUL, Minn. Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom had to fight being too comfortable in net during Sunday night's game against the Edmonton Oilers. Backstrom, Minnesota's veteran netminder, said he's maybe only seen one or two occasions in his entire hockey lifetime that he's been able to enjoy the view from his own crease quite like he could during the...

Michael Rupp rocks Paul Bissonnette's world

The big news from Michael Rupp vs Paul Bissonnette: BizNasty left last night’s brawl with a stream of blood over his left eye after getting rocked by Rupp. You had to figure, after BizNasty went on a three-game scoring streak, he’d be a little rusty in the fighting department. After his suddenly hot play, the Coyotes actually gave Biz 12 shifts last night against Minnesota....

Wild 4, Oilers 2

Mikko Koivu made up for a frustrating stretch without a goal by Minnesota, scoring 9 seconds into the third period to snap a tie and spark the Wild to a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday. The Wild had an astounding 18-0 advantage in shots on goal in the second period, and the Oilers went 23:35 without a shot after Magnus Paajarvi's goal tied the game late in the...

Wild dominate the Oilers with strong offense and defense in 4-2 win at home

This weekend, I taught at a Technology Camp where I live.  I taught a few classes regarding applications related to Google, and I had time between my classes so I took an old school video game system I owned which allows a person to play the old Nintendo Entertainment System games, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.  I hooked up to my SMARTboard at school (which is where Tech Camp...

AHL Scoring Race

The AHL season has been a rather disjointed one because of the NHL lockout.  Many of the top players in the league joined the NHL in January when its season began.  One example of that is seen in the scoring race.  Jordan Eberle of the Oklahoma City Barons (AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers) took over the league scoring race around the end of 2012.  His biggest rival was teammate...
