As the old saying goes, all good things come to an end. Before last night’s 4-3 shootout defeat at the hands of Vancouver Canucks, Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne had not lost a game since Jan. 5 – over a month ago. Since that decisive loss to Dallas, Rinne won all 11 of his starts and put the team on his back. In the process he set a franchise record for most consecutive wins as a goaltender. In Rinne’s stellar 11-game win streak, he posted a goals-against average of 1.55, along with a save percentage of .951. He also allowed more than two goals just once. His great play seems to have placed his name in Vezina Trophy discussion once again, following an up and down first half.Last night, Rinne dropped his third decision of the year against Vancouver. In each of the first two meetings (both in Vancouver), Rinne was pulled from his cage. He even ran the risk of being yanked again last night with the Preds facing a 3-1 deficit after 20 minutes. Rinne settled down, made 28 saves i...

Rinne’s winning streak snapped, Preds lose in shootout…

Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne has been pulled from a game just four times this season. Half of them against the Vancouver Canucks. Since being chased by Vancouver on December 1, Rinne was an unimaginable 20-2-1. Better make that 20-3-1. In front of 16,232 inside Bridgestone Arena, Rinne’s 11-game win streak came to an end as the Preds lost in the shootout, 4-3...

Pekka a Rinne-stone Cowboy in Nashville

Those not convinced that the Nashville Predators are in it to win long term need to look no further than the massive contract that general manager David Poile dished out to goaltender Pekka Rinne back in November.

Henrik Lundqvist, Pekka Rinne Voted Toughest to Beat in Shootouts by NHL Players

Say what you will about shootouts, but they're pretty important. That's why it's helpful to have a good goalie who you can count on to stop the other team and squeeze out that extra point for a W. It appears the Rangers and Predators are getting the most help from their goalies, according to a recent poll by Sports Illutrated. Henrik Lundqvist and Pekka Rinne were voted...

Canucks-Predators Preview

Pekka Rinne's solid play has been a major reason for the Nashville Predators' recent surge. The Vancouver Canucks seem to have his number, though. Rinne and the Predators seek a seventh win in their last eight games Tuesday night when they host the Canucks, who have won four straight meetings in Nashville and have chased the star goaltender twice this season. Vancouver Canucks (32-15-5) at Nashville Predators (32-17-4), 8 p.m. (ET)

There may not be a more confident goaltender in the league right now than Nashville's Pekka Rinne. Vancouver should have plenty of positive feelings heading into Tuesday night after the way it won its last game.

Dear Blues Front Office: Please Don’t Mortgage the Future

To begin, yes I realize the Blues have some issues on the offensive end. Even if those issues are frustratingly named Pekka Rinne, Nikolai Khabibulin, Josh Harding and Kari Lehtonen. If you’re a Blues fan you know the Note out-shoots virtually every opponent but has had their fair share of issues putting the puck in the back of the net. And yes they need some help with a scoring...

Goalies take center stage in Central

Barring unexpected late-season collapses, four of the Central Division's five teams will qualify for the playoffs. As the season enters the final two months, Detroit, Nashville, St. Louis and Chicago appear to be teams that will make up half of the eight Western Conference teams when the postseason begins in early April. Those four teams are in the top eight overall in terms...

Young Preds fan flabbergasted by hockey

I TOLD you I loved this photo set. Take a look at this picture of Pekka Rinne making a save, as Ryan Suter and David Backes jostle in front of the net. One girl is stunned by the proceedings:But... is that a "stunned" look? Oh no. That's more "shocked". Like "David Backes did what to Ryan Suter's mama?!"I encourage photoshops and other captions...
