The Ottawa Senators eked out a narrow 3-2 victory over the LA Kings last night, with the highlight of the night going to Alexei Kovalev for his 1000th point which came off a stick shattering goal. It was an incredibly satisfying way to hit a milestone with the first goal of the game at 10 minutes into the first period with a rousing standing ovation by the fans at home. What a special moment in his career and for the fans.
Not to be outdone, Alfredsson and Spezza both poured on some slick moves on the night, with Alfredsson setting up Michalek for a beauty in the second period, skating all over Jack Johnson and stunning him in the zone, and Spezza showing off his fine skating and sharp shot in the third, making the LA defense look like pylons. It was a night for the stars to shine for the Senators, but it was far from a decisive victory. Right up until the last 3 seconds of the game, the victory wasn’t a sure thing with a prolonged goal review that kept the War Room working late.
