It seems that in today's sports world you can never have an MVP race without the definition of the phrase "Most Valuable Player" being debated as if it were written in Latin. With two weeks to go in the NHL regular season, Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin stand at the top of the race for the Hart trophy, awarded to the MVP of the NHL. Not to be different than any other MVP race, this one has already brought upon some controversy.

  • Ovechkin for sure.... yes Crosby is a hell of a player but Ovechkinis just insane...60 plus goals so far this year and still games to go. Mario Lemieux has the record with 69 goals in one season ovrechkin already has 62...he brings the hitting game with him as well...when you think of Ovechkin he is the all around player. Maybe the Next Great one?
  • Actually the record is 92 goals by Wayne Gretzky. Lemieux's best is 85. I believe Ovechkin has a chance at 70 this year, which is amazing considering the lack of talent around him, compared to a guy like Malkin.
  • o while watching the game it said that the record was 69 but now that ii think of it they said some tihng else ...but ya when you look at ovechkin he makes all those goals happen by himself he hes a play maker also...And Malkin has guys like Crosby who does Ovechkin have...Ovechkin is the better player
  • The last time someone scored 60+ goals was in 1996 when Lemieux scored 69. That could be what they were talking about.

The one thing you can say about Malkin is that his play doesn't drop off without Crosby. Ovechkin is having the better season, but I think he, Crosby, and Malkin are all on the same level when it comes to talent.
