Owen Nolan was a valuable Unrestricted Free Agent. Many will say he's too old, and no longer has the scoring touch of his youth. However, Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter realizes Nolan's importance to a hockey team and when he was available in Free Agency, Sutter picked him up. Nolan almost went to the Flames at the trade deadline, but then Coyotes GM Michael Barnett asked Nolan what he wanted to do. Nolan wanted to stay for personal, emotional reasons. When his scoring touch returned around December, he also showed everyone just how tough he is. Many of the new players on opposing teams were caught by surprise. It's too bad he is no longer a Phoenix Coyote, and hopefully, fans of the Calgary Flames will know how important he will be to their hockey team.

  • Flames fans now have one of the more dynamic scorers in the league. I will always remember him in an All-Star game, pointing to the spot he was going to score, and when he did, it was amazing. And about him being too old... you are only as young as how you feel. Look at Joe Sakic. He's still the best player on the Avs team.
  • I'm hoping Owen Nolan will not fade away like Tony Amonte during his 2 year stay in Calgary. I've never seen one player hit the post in my lifetime.
  • Edit: I've never seen someone hit the post as much as he did over the last 2 seasons.
  • Owen Nolan fans, take a look back at his history and compare his stats in the last year of his contractts to the following year after signinf a free agent deal.
