Tim Thomas‘ return to the NHL probably isn’t going the way he drew up. The Florida Panthers veteran goalie has looked every bit of his 39-year-old age in his return to the league after sitting out last season. The goalie injured his groin just three games into the season but did recently return form that injury. That didn’t last long, though. Thomas reaggravated that groin injury Tuesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. The tweak is apparently bad enough to land Thomas on injured reserve. The Panthers made the move to place him on IR on Wednesday, which means he won’t play in the team’s games on Friday or Sunday against the Sabres and Lightning respectively. Thomas was making his third straight start since returning from the original injury, which he suffered on Oct. 8 against the Flyers. He’s 2-3-0 in his six appearances this season with a 3.11 goals against average and a .905 save percentage. While it is early in the season, goals against and save percentage totals are Thomas...

Tim Thomas injures his ‘other’ groin

Thomas left the ice with 2:59 remaining...

The Florida Panthers are giving away free tickets after every victory

The Florida Panthers are desperate to get fans in the seats at the BB&T Center. As if offering season tickets for as low as $7 a game wasn't enough, the Panthers are now offering a free ticket for their next home game to everyone who attends a Florida victory with a single game ticket.  Their new motto: "We win, you win."  What an incredible deal. If...

Cat Bites: Facing past champs gives Panthers confidence

There has to be relief in the Florida Panthers locker room now that one of their toughest stretches of the season is in the books. Florida opened the year with a four-game road trip, then returned home to face the past four Stanley Cup Champions -- the Pittsburgh Penguins, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks -- in a span of 11 days. Maple Leafs have their eyes on Florida's Dmitry Kulikov

Just two days ago word came out that the Florida Panthers were already starting to get that wheeling and dealing bug with a large portion of their roster available for trade. From the looks of it there could be a taker. Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov was the Panthers' No. 1 pick (14th overall) in the 2009 draft. He made the team right away and has been in Florida ever since signing...

Panthers aim to emulate Blackhawks

Kris Versteeg hasn't paid close attention to the team he helped win a Stanley Cup since leaving Chicago four seasons ago. But the Panthers forward has a good idea of what to expect when the Blackhawks visit the BB&T Center Tuesday night. "You kind of know every night what kind of game you're going to get from them. They've played pretty much the same way the...

Dan Spiegel: Tim Thomas Hurt Again

Last year Jose Theodore's knee injury forced youngster Jacob Markstrom into a starting role he may not have been ready for. A few weeks ago he hurt his groin, and now he is hampered by a lower body injury that is reportedly not the same injury. But whatever it is, it is worse than the previous...

John Jaeckel: Two Points, More Third Period Questions

Follow JJ on Twitter @jaeckel! Repeating an increasingly more painful theme in this young season (well, it's now 10% over), the Blackhawks again squandered a third period lead. This time, against the Florida Panthers, and on a horrible sheet of ice, the Hawks were able to pull it out in the shootout. Chicago is 6-1-2—a very nice record—but with too many...
