Are you trying to predict what lies ahead in Pavel Datsyuk's hockey career? Good luck. By now you've probably heard speculation that Datsyuk will finish out the remaining year on his contract in 2013-14 before calling it quits in the NHL and playing out his final days in Russia. Other speculation indicates that while he wants to end his career in Russia, there's no guarantee he will leave the NHL after his current contract expires and that he might be open to extending his current contract.  New reports should give hope to Red Wings fans as it appears Datsyuk's agent is interested in talking to the team about the forward's future after the current season concludes. Datsyuk's agent Gary Greenstin stated that there hasn't been a decision made regarding Datsyuk's future, but that if the forward was to stay in the NHL that it'd be with the Red Wings. Set to turn 35 in July, Datsyuk appears to be approaching the final few years of his playing...

Khan: Red Wings have touched base with Datsyuk’s agent, but no other contracts are on front-burner

We'd heard this from the CBC's Elliotte Friedman, but it's great to have a Wings beat writer confirm it: According to MLive's Ansar Khan, Red Wings GM Ken Holland has indeed "touched base" with Pavel Datsyuk's agent, Gary Greenstin, and while the Wings can't formally re-sign Datsyuk (whose situation is "complicated" given that, after the...

Red Wings GM Ken Holland on ‘After Hours’

From We All Bleed Red on YouTube, Red Wings GM Ken Holland spoke to the CBC's Scott Oake and Craig Simpson on After Hours, and the interview's worth watching:

Red Wings-Canucks quick take: n-v-t-s

I've been sick for the last 36 hours but managed to drag myself out of bed to watch the Minnesota Wild defeat the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in a shoootou...Wait, what? Those were the Canucks getting out-shot 34-14 in regulation and OT, including 17-2 in the 3rd and 4-1 in OT, but earning a shootout win because not even Pavel Datsyuk or Henrik Zetterberg can score these days for...

Red Wings afternoon news: to make the playoffs, the Wings must win at least 3 of 5 remaining games

I haven't slept since a pre-game nap prior to the Red Wings' rather wretched 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames last night for reasons mostly not involving the game, but given that I came home from a 100-mile round trip of ferrying the mom to an appointment with 60+ "You've Received a Comment" notifications, I'm just going to guess that more than a few of you...

Red Wings Pull Up 1 of 2 Possible Points

The Red Wings scrum up a big point, but also drop another, as they drop the game 2-1 to the Canucks in a shootout. Shot blocking and defensive pressure were the stories of this game. Each team had very few shots on goal through each period. The scoring wasn’t opened till 12:15 of [...]

Detroit Red Wings' playoff streak in jeopardy

A historic run by the Detroit Red Wings might be coming to an end. As the Red Wings battle with the Columbus Blue Jackets, St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars for one of the few remaining playoff spots in the West, the team is fully aware that by failing to reach the playoffs they'll end a streak of consecutive playoff appearances which began back in 1990. Detroit's run of...

Stating The Obvious

We have to play with more desperation and put ourselves in a good spot,'' Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. The Red Wings have been outscored 33-28 and outshot 426-414 in the first period this season. “It's sort of been like that all year. I can't put a finger on it,'' goaltender Jimmy Howard said. “We're a team that can start and dictate...

Red Wings overnight report: watching the team struggle sucks, and keeping the faith ain’t easy

As Wings coach Mike Babcock might say, the Red Wings (20-16-and-7, 47 points, 18 Regulation-or-OT Wins, 5 games left) sit in 10th place in the Western Conference standings because the Dallas Stars defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-1 on Thursday (Dallas is 22-18-and-3, has 20 ROW's and the same 47 points and 5 games remaining as the Wings, so they're in 9th place now, and the...

3-5-2 Fading down the stretch, or is it disappearing? No passengers tonight, or no chance at all for 22, none. Dreams of the playoffs are slipping away. Continue reading "GDT - Game 44: Red Wings (20-16-7) at Canucks (24-13-7) 10:00"
