Joe Pavelski has always been known for his big goals. He did it again in Game 1.
Pavelski scored at 14:44 of the first overtime as the Sharks took the first game of the western conference quarterfinals. Kyle Wellwood made a mice pass to Pavelski, who fired it home past Jonathan Quick to give the Sharks a 1-0 series lead. Wellwood, Clowe and Pavelski were all gassed, but Wellwood decided to continue the rush instead of dumping it in. It was Pavelski’s seventh career game winning goal in the playoffs and third playoff overtime goal.
Dany Heatley broke the Sharks record for the fastest goal to open a game when he scored just 28 seconds into the game. Heatley banged home a rebound off a shot from Ryane Clowe to give the Sharks an early 1-0 lead. Ian White left the game with under a minute to go in the first period when he was hit from behind into the boards by Jarret Stoll.
