In an effort to lighten the mood during the lockout, The New York Rangers Blog will be writing faux recaps for every Rangers game missed due to the work stoppage. Enjoy. PITTSBURGH - The injury embroiled Pittsburgh Penguins received help from two unexpected sources tonight on their way to a 2-1 OT win over the New York Rangers with the vice president in attendance tonight. The Pittsburgh Penguins announced before the game that former Ranger and Pen Luc Robitaille would suit up tonight, taking Sidney Crosby's roster spot after he complained about menstrual headaches following last night's game against the Canucks. The Rangers opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first period when Rick Nash deked between two Penguin defenders and scored on Marc Andre Fleury before barreling into the Penguin goaltender. Fleury was down on the ice for several minutes before being helped off the ice. With Tomas Vokoun still not 100% with lingering effects of his groin injury, the Penguins were forced to put Iceburgh, the Penguins mascot in net. Iceburgh proved to be a welcome sight in net, stopping the Rangers on consecutive power plays to begin the second period. "Iceburgh was blocking everything we threw at him," explained an exasperated Ryan Callahan. "Iceburgh took up so much of the middle of the net because of that large belly of his. I just hope Hank wasn't taking notes at the other end considering how many shots he likes to save with his helmet." The score remained 1-0 late into the third period. With Iceburgh on the bench, Luc Robitaille beat Lundqvist as time expired to send the game into overtime. Immediately after Robitaille scored, explosions rained down from the rafters of the Consol Energy Center forcing players quickly off to the locker room and fans scurrying for the exits. NYR blog reader Darren McCord took this picture just before the explosions occurred. NHL and Pittsburgh administrators told both teams that the explosions were part of a movie stunt and that the players and fans were never in any harm. "We had no idea," said John Tortorella, "You can chalk this up on the list of things Gary Bettman and the NHL should be ashamed about." The Rangers and Penguins finished the game in front of an empty arena. Tyler Kennedy scored the game winner only a minute into overtime. The Rangers are now 4-1-1 on the year and play again Friday night against the Carolina Hurricanes. For previous faux recaps, click here.
