PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Penguins and coach Dan Bylsma have agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2016. General manager Ray Shero announced the deal Wednesday morning, less than a week after the Eastern Conference’s top seed was swept by Boston in the conference finals. Assistant coaches Tony Granato and Todd Reirden will also be retained. Goaltending coach Gilles Meloche will move into an advisory role with the club next season. Bylsma is 201-92-25 in four-plus seasons with Pittsburgh and helped the franchise win its third Stanley Cup in 2009. The Penguins went 36-12-0 and won the Atlantic Division title this season. Shero says he believes Bylsma is the coach to work with stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin as the team moves forward.

Update: Pens ink Bylsma to two-year extension

Bylsma would vault to #1 on my list if he becomes available. Update: The Penguins have extended coach Dan Bylsma, so he is now eliminated from the head coaching pool. The Penguins were completely outmatched, despite winning the Stanley Cup...

THE HATER'S CALENDAR TO HATING ON DAN BYLSMA IN 2013-14

A funny thing happened yesterday. No, not the Bylsma extension...I expected as much and the team delivered. Perhaps it was a funny thing to everyone who thought he was as good as fired. The funny thing was that GM Ray Shero came out and spoke candidly for about an hour on the team and expectations, and the people who wanted Bylsma axed all of a sudden turned on the masterful...

Keep Calm and Shero On. Why the Bylsma extension makes unlimited sense.

Look, it was sink or swim. The Pens were going to either fire Dan Bylsma,or extend him.  They extended him, and it makes unlimited sense. Stability Think back to the end of the Craig Patrick era. There was no system, coaches were in and out, and basically the Penguins were like a college kid who kept overdrafting their bank account. In the Eastern Conference Finals in...
