Well, it’s not the news anyone was hoping for, but it’s not awful.  Crosby  did not travel with the team when they went to play the Flyers in Philadelphia and onto the New York Islanders on Saturday because of concussion-like symptoms following the loss to the Bruins last Tuesday.  Here are the quotes from his conversation with the media today:

“Not (feeling) bad. I’m not happy about watching. But I have to make sure with these sort of things that I’m careful and making sure I’m 100 percent before coming back. No timetable.

“I did my ImPACT test and it went pretty good. That was a good sign. It’s much different than previously going through that stuff. That was encouraging. I skated following day after with exertion. I just didn’t feel right. After talking with everyone I figured it was better to be cautious and not take any chances. That’s where I’m at right now.

“Yes (I’ve had symptoms the last couple days). If I didn’t I would be practicing.”

So, it sounds like we are back to the wait and see game, but he has already been ruled out for tomorrow’s game against Detroit.   On the positive side Crosby played 8 games, and played well without problems.  I definitely believe that them erring on the side of caution is the right way to go with him.  Hopefully there is no rushing him back, we know that we can survive a few games without him.

Other injury updates:

  • Jordan Staal is out with a lower body injury, did not practice today and is day-to-day.
  • Kris Letang is still out, did not practice and no word on his return after suffering a concussion against Montreal.
  • Zbynek Michalek who was out with a concussion was cleared for practice today.
  • Richard Park is out 4-6 weeks with a fracture in his foot.
  • Defenseman Brian Strait was also cleared to practice today too.
