Staal Tactics:
What is the best way to confront the reigning Stanley Cup champions? I am not sure what the answer to that is. But I do know this, you can not and will not push this team around. Philly tried it the other night and lost, last night Toronto tried to go the goon route and they were taken out back of the woodshed for a proper beating.Leafs GM Brian Burke has tried to transform the soft Maple Leafs of the last few years into a more rugged and dirty group of Flyer wannabes. So far it isn't working as the Leafs are winless through five games. The Toronto faithful booed their team throughout the night and sarcastically cheered goalie Vesa Toskala whenever he actually got around to stopping a puck. The Pens converted three straight powerplays and only took two penalties of their own. Evgeni Malkin led the way with three helpers and Sidney Crosby netted two PP goals for the 4-1 Pens. It sure looked like they were clicking on all cylinders as they outshot the Leafs 14-2 in the first period...
