Rookie Petr Mrazek, one of the gems of Detroit’s minor-league system, will make his first NHL start on Thursday night, as the Red Wings head into St. Louis to take on the Blues. Multiple reports confirmed the news Thursday afternoon, following rumors of the possible switch in net. The Red Wings just called Mrazek up from Grand Rapids following Detroit’s loss to Calgary on Tuesday night. The 20-year-old Mrazek was the 141st overall pick at the 2010 draft. He spent three seasons with the Ottawa 67′s of the OHL, while also playing between the pipes for the Czech Republic at the World Junior Championships. In seven games with the Griffins this season, Mrazek posted a 6-1-0 record with a 1.71 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage. Howard figures to be back in net Saturday against Edmonton, though the Wings have a back-to-back weekend — they’ll host Los Angeles on Sunday, leaving the door open for another Mrazek start. There’s still no real word on when Jonas Gustavsson might be ready after injuring his groin; and Joey MacDonald, dealing with a back injury, has just begun a rehab assignment.
