Photo by Gregg Forwerck/NHLI via Getty Images By Charlie O’Connor (@THG_Charlie) The Philadelphia Flyers announced this morning that Head Coach Peter Laviolette was signed to a two-year contract extension. “We are thrilled to have Peter continue his work with our group as we push to compete for the Stanley Cup,” General Manager Paul Holmgren said. “Peter has done a terrific job for us and is very deserving of this extension.” Laviolette, 47, is entering his fourth season as head coach of the Flyers. He was hired on December 4, 2009 to replace John Stevens, who was fired following a disappointing start to the 2009-10 season. Laviolette coached the team to a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals in his first season. Under Laviolette’s tenure, the Flyers have posted a 122-73-26 regular season record, and a 23-22 record in the postseason.
