The Hockey Program:
Undaunted from last night, we play over/under again tonight.
2 UNIT = New York Islanders @ Pittsburgh Penguins - OVER 5.5 GOALS (-125)
(Note: I am risking 2.00 units to win 1.60)
The 3-3-3 Islanders will head to Pittsburgh to take on the 7-2 Penguins. New York has lost 5 of their last 6 games, but they've been scoring goals. New York has 3 or more goals in 4 straight, and they've scored at least two goals in every game this season as they average 3.11 goals per game (10th). The Penguins are 4th in the NHl avearging 3.33 goals per game, and they've scored at least 3 goals in every game but their latest where they were shutout on 34 shots on net.
Pittsburgh will go with their back up Jeff Zatkoff tonight who is 0-1 with a 6.05 GAA and .800 SV% in his lone start vs Florida. Evgeni Nabokov is 3-2-3 with a 2.80 GAA and .905 SV%. The last 5 meetings between these two teams have resulted in totals of 7, 4, 10, 9, and 7. Take the OVER laying a bit of chalk. Good luck.

The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forward Jayson Megna from their American Hockey League affiliate Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins today.
Megna has 5 points (3 G; 2A) in six games this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Last season, Megna tallied 12 points in 56 games as a rookie for WBS.
Megna played one season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha...
The Pittsburgh Penguins 2012 first round draft pick, Olli Maatta, will remain with the team, general manager Ray Shero announced Thursday. “Based on his play, we believe this is the best decision for Olli and the Penguins,” Shero said. “We want to thank Mark and Dale Hunter and the London Knights for their patience and understanding.” The 19-year-old
Brian Strait is day-to-day with an upper body injury and will miss tomorrow’s game against Pittsburgh. That leaves the Islanders with six defenders so Radek Martinek will make his season debut tomorrow night.
A funny thing happened at CONSOL Energy Center last weekend. Squared off against the Vancouver Canucks in a Saturday matinee, the Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury surrendered a tally that conjured up images of his recent playoff ghosts. After the harmless looking shot from center ice floated on net, rolled up and over Fleury's chest and trickled over the goal line, the...
Roster moves abound as Pens welcome back Kris Letang, and keep rookie Olli Maatta on NHL roster for remainder of season.
Good Morning friends, family, and Penguins fans alike. It is Friday, and as always is A Great Day For Hockey.
I would like to get every one of you off to a tranquil start today, so please join me in this meditative technique.Close your eyes, look deep inside...
Most of the Islanders wait roughly two minutes to see action. Two or three line shifts and the skaters come over the boards and into the fray. Kevin Poulin whose job description is "backup goalie" sat for seven days before he was called to be Evgeni Nabokov's proxy (a 3-2 loss to Chicago) and since has waited another 13 days.
With back-to-back games coming this week...
For a long the New York Islanders have been a mediocre franchise. Instead of keeping their young talent they like to trade it in order to acquire big names. For example they have traded Zdeno Chara, Roberto Luongo, and others and in return; no megastars. Although these questionable moves were made nothing even remotely matches […]
The Islanders will head into to Pittsburgh to battle the division leading Penguins tonight at 7pm. The Isles will start goalie Evgeni Nabokov in net as they try and tackle two points away from the high flying Penguins. I would expect Islander backup goalie Kevin Poulin to start tomorrow night in Philadelphia.
The only scratch for tonight is Eric Boulton so Brock Nelson will...
The legendary saga of Rick DiPietro has continued. He has signed a PTO with AHL’s Charlotte Checkers. Yes, he can’t even get a standard player contract. No one could have predicted that DiPietro would spend more time on the IR than on the ice, but he has been limited to 47 games since 2008. His injuries troubles began in March 2007 when he [...]
Uhhh what happen here?
Total failure by all players involved. First off, this is why Chuck Kobasew is Chuck Kobasew. Gotta get the puck out. Malkin checked out, Niskanen yikes, and Olli Maatta makes his first really, really bad play.
If we have learned nothing over the past year and a half the New York Islanders are always entertaining. The game isn't always perfect, or pretty or executed properly yet the Isles find a way to stick around and the next thing you know they find a way to steal a point or two.
Last night in Pittsburgh the Islanders hung around; killed off many Pittsburgh power plays and...

The "hump day" version of the New York Ranger and New York Islander prospect report focused in on the red hot Erie Otters who led by Islander prospect defenseman Adam Pelech (2012 3rd) and Ranger prospect defenseman Troy Donnay (2013 UFA) were looking for their 8th straight win. The Otters were hosting Islander prospect center Victor Crus-Rydberg...
Pittsburgh Penguins (7-3-0) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (7-4-0)
Root Sports, CBC - 7:00 pm/et
Air Canada Centre - Toronto, ON
Saturday night on CBC. It's a big game for the Pens and for the Leafs. Like it or not, Saturday night in Toronto is the big time in hockey. The lights are bright, the pre-game video package is epic and Don Cherry is confused and out of...
