We took a tough beat as Pittsburgh just missed several times on the empty netter tonight.  Let's take a stab at tonight's action on Pick The Winner. ============================================ Anaheim Ducks @ St Louis Blues - BLUES TO WIN (-164) (Note: I'm risking 1.64 units to win 1 unit) The Anaheim Ducks enter tonight's game with a 29-28-10 record on the season and 11-14-8 road record. The Ducks beat Edmonton 4-2 on Monday, but have lost 3 of their last 5 games. To give Anaheim credit they have been playing a lot better hockey than the start of the season, but their road play is still iffy and will have their hands full tonight with one of the Western Conference's top teams. The St Louis Blues are 41-18-7 on the season and a stellar 27-4-4 on home ice. The Blues took care of the Blackhawks on Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory, and have won 6 of their last 7 games (with 6 of those games coming on the road). Taking a look back at the Blues recen...

Smith-Pelly shines in challenging first season

There are statistics for hits, blocked shots and ice-time, but in any thorough analysis, there isn't really a number that gives an accurate reading of "toughness" or "endurance". Devante Smith-Pelly's four goals and seven points through 35 games with the Anaheim Ducks don't provide the most complete representation of the character he's displayed...

Blues lead the NHL while media snoozes.

Who *are* these people?? (via averagejoe) Gallagher over on St. Louis Game Time wrote an op-ed that absolutely captured how I feel about the news media and the Blues' playoff push. Go on, keep ignoring it. Keep fawning over how well the Rangers are playing, or keep fixating on that absolutely fascinating race for the final playoff spot in the East that no one seems to want....

Ducks Loss to St. Louis Virtually Ends Season

The party is officially over for the Anaheim Ducks.  While not mathematically eliminated, a 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues means it is only a matter of time before the numbers do add up.Losses to Los Angeles, Buffalo and Colorado last week made the road to the post season even more difficult.  Victories over Calgary and Edmonton helped delay the inevitable, but the latest defeat...

Andy McDonald's scoring touch has sparked the Blues

St. Louis Blues forward Andy McDonald has scored eight goals  in 13 games since returning from a concussion injury. - Photo courtesy of Getty Images As the NHL trade deadline neared at the end of February, many speculated and wondered in the St. Louis Blues would trade some of their depth and youthful talent for a high quality sniper.  They type of player that a team that...

Defensive-Minded Blues Sitting Atop NHL Standings

On November 6, the St. Louis Blues were off to a 6-7-0 start and fans began preparing themselves for a third consecutive season without playoff hockey. Jaroslav Halak, in the second year of a four-year extension signed in the summer of 2010, was performing miserably and the skaters in front of them weren't faring much better. General manager Doug Armstrong had to act quickly...

Blues Out - Everything Hawks

Yes, to be sure. Shots, hits, hustle, special teams, you name it.Ok, in fights, perhaps a split decision.  It was a surprisingly, very flat effort put out by the Hawks yesterday as they played the Blues in St. Louis.  5 - 1 was the final as the Blues took over the number one spot in the West. Vancouver, Detroit, and Phoenix also lost, by the way. In net, it was the #3 NHL Star...

Ducks fall to Blues to start road trip

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Patrik Berglund scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and Jaroslav Halak made 24 saves for his career-high seventh straight win to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night. St. Louis improved to a league-best 28-4-4 at home with their seventh win in eight games. David Backes and Kevin Shattenkirk also scored for...

Blackhawks keep Blues focused

After a successful 5-1 road trip, the Blues were actually thankful that the opponent in their first game back home was rival Chicago. Not because they believed it would spell a victory -- hardly. The Blackhawks had won three straight games going into Tuesday night's meeting. Rather Blues coach Ken Hitchcock knew the Hawks would earn his team's attention. "Whether...

St. Louis improved to a league-best 28-4-4 at home with their seventh win in eight games. David Backes scored two goals for St. Louis, which is 20-1-3 in its last...

The First Place Team

Currently the first place team in the NHL is the St Louis Blues.  They have a 43-25 record with seven regulation tie points.  This gives them 93 points, which is a one point lead over the Vancouver Canucks. St Louis is a surprise first place team.  They started off poorly enough that after thirteen games they changed coaches.  At that point St Louis was second last in the West...

Blue Jackets-Blues Preview

With their defense and special teams leading the way, the St. Louis Blues have surged to the top of the Western Conference standings and are in contention for the second Presidents' Trophy in team history. The Blues will try to continue that success during a home-and-home set that begins Saturday night against the surging Columbus Blue Jackets, who likely won't have starting...

Ducks-Blues Preview

The St. Louis Blues have relied on their stingy defense to surge to the top of the Western Conference standings. A home matchup with the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night might help them continue that success in their own end and add to that slim lead in the West. St. Louis (42-18-7) is giving up only 1.88 goals per contest overall and has yielded two or fewer in each game over a...
