New York Rangers (13-11-2) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (20-8-0) ROOT, NHLN-US, MSG - 1:00 pm/et Consol Energy Center - Pittsburgh, PA The Pens look to win eight-in-a-row against the New York Rangers. The Rangers are currently just outside of playoff position, so every game is big for them. They've lost three of their last four games. It's also the first of back-to-back afternoon games for the Pens, which is kind of awful for fans who have things/sleeping to do on the weekend. THIS DAY IN PENGUINS HISTORY: Montreal @ Pittsburgh, March 16, 2007. Pens win 6-3. [Pensblog Recap] Season Series: Pens lead 2-0-0 Last meeting that counted: January 31, 2013. Penguins won 3-0. What we said in our recap: Fine line between winning and losing in the NHL. Special teams are usually on that line. If you can find a big goal on a power play at some point, whether you are up by one or down by one, you're going to win games. Pens did that in this one. They got the PP goal when they needed it and moonwalked out of MSG with a 3-0 win. Huge stat: this was the Pens' first shutout in MSG in 16 years. Tomas Vokoun was everything he needed to be. Last year the Penguins don't get this win with Brent Johnson. Overall the game was pretty boring. But a win was imperative after the egg they laid on Tuesday. Rangers must have sold their soul to the devil to get Rick Nash. Actually, maybe they traded their soul away. Without Dubinsky and Anisimov, the Rangers don't seem to match up with the Pens as well anymore. Sucks to suck. Know Your Enemy: The New York Rangers Blog What they're saying: Let that sink in folks. We can talk about toughness, chemistry and coaching all we want, but if the Rangers don't start scoring they they have no chance of making the playoffs. BTW, four of those goals came in Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Capitals. Meaning they've scored just five regulation goals total in four of the last five games. The Rangers are 1-3-1 in those five games.
