So what happened?
The Pens went to the shoot out for the first time in seemingly forever (the last time was Saturday, November 5th in Los Angeles).
Prior to that, there was a highly entertaining hockey game.
The Pens and Canes traded chances and generally played end-to-end hockey with no whistles for long stretches. I wouldn't say it had the intensity of a playoff...
The main thing I talked about in the preview was how Cam Ward is showing signs of his usual self and that the Canes should see more wins as a result even if they continue to be outshot night in and night out. Tonight's game seemed to fit that prediction well as the Canes were outshot 37-22 at even strength and outchanced 20-13, but were able to pick up a point in a 2-1 shootout...
WR/DB Bryan Allen makes it official and pledges to Utah...
Penguins center and captain Sidney Crosby left the team to see concussion specialist Ted Carrick in Atlanta. Top defenseman Kris Letang was medically cleared to play after a concussion and will return to the lineup soon. From general manager Ray Shero's perspective, those are equally welcome developments. Shero on Monday called Crosby's time with Carrick "a good thing."
The headaches and dizziness that made it difficult for him to even get out of bed now gone, Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang returned to practice on Tuesday for the first time in nearly two months following a concussion sustained against Montreal in late November.

The Pittsburgh Penguins run against the Southeast Division continues. The Pens outscored their opponents 10-5 in their last three games against Washington, Florida and Tampa Bay. Now it's Carolina's turn. A win...
Evgeni Malkin has played some terrific hockey lately. Quite possibly the finest of his career. But maybe, just maybe, not his best of this season. That, defenseman Brooks Orpik suggested after the Penguins' 2-1 shootout victory against Carolina Tuesday night at Consol Energy Center, might still be coming.
Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was named NHL ‘Third Star’ for the week ending Jan. 15. This is Malkin’s third league honor this season after previously being named ‘Third Star’ for the month of December and ‘Thi...
