The Washington Capitals have recalled defenseman Tom Poti from Hershey of the AHL, bringing back someone who hasn't played in an NHL game in two years because of injuries.
Poti was added to Washington's roster Friday, a day before the team plays at the Tampa Bay Lightning to open the lockout-delayed season.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Poti has not appeared in the NHL since playing for Washington at Tampa Bay on Jan. 12, 2011.
He missed the rest of the 2011-12 season and all of last season, and general manager George McPhee sounded a pessimistic note in May, saying Poti ''may have played his last game in the NHL.''
But Poti recently passed a physical exam and scored one goal in two games during a conditioning stint at Hershey.

Bolts shock the Caps in season opener
It is not the season opener the Washington Capitals wanted, or for that matter, expected. In the career debut of new bench boss Adam Oates, the Capitals got ripped by the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-3 in Tampa Bay to fall to 0-1 on the season.
The Caps were inflicted by bad defense and bad goaling from Branden Holtby. There are some out there that may lay this loss completely...

Don’t panic. The Washington Capitals lost their opening game of the 2013 season on Saturday night, conceding three power play goals en route to a 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. With a new coach, a new system, and a lockout hanging over their heads, the Caps were terrible in their own zone and suffered the consequences of such sloppy play. Joel...
