Pat Leonard at the Daily News reports that both Marian Gaborik (flu) and Ryan Callahan (personal reasons) returned to practice today after sitting out yesterday. In a scary moment, Callahan took a puck to the head during practice but was able to finish without any issues....someone put that guy in bubble wrap, the Rangers need him healthy.Leonard adds that Rangers spent most of today's practice working on special teams, even holding a power play meeting after at 1 p.m....very encouraged with the power play's production to end the season. Could be the difference in this series.Meanwhile, Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that while there's still some swelling in Henrik Lundqvist's right forearm the soreness has cleared up and he can grip stick with five fingers again....having a healthy Lundqvist for the playoffs is sort of important for the Rangers.Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at ...

Big Playoffs for Lundqvist's Legacy

Jake Emen at Yahoo! Sports has Barry Melrose's less than complimentary comments regarding Henrik Lundqvist on ESPN's Pardon the Interruption on Wednesday..."They've been in the playoffs five times with Henrik Lundqvist, they've only won two rounds in those five tries. So it's not like Henrik Lundqivst is money come playoff time. He hasn't had great playoffs...

Rangers ready to roll as East's top-seeded team

Henrik Lundqvist got the news when he got to the practice rink. Meet the new Sports Illustrated cover boy for the NHL postseason. The photogenic New York Rangers goalie took it in stride Tuesday and seemed pleased to have been picked to be the face of the Stanley Cup playoffs. It means his club has had a really good season, and he is a big reason why. New York is the top-seeded...

Lundqvist Enjoying His Time in New York

From Ken Baker at NHL.com: Lundqvist, who is 30 and entering the Stanley Cup Playoffs after his most statistically remarkable regular season (1.97 goals-against average .930 save percentage), says, “I’d like to play another ten years, maybe more. But, with injuries, you never know. That’s why you just have to enjoy the moment.” The latest moment for the Swede to soak in...

Rangers G Lundqvist on cover of Sports Illustrated

New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist appears on the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated. That's noteworthy for a number of reasons as the last Rangers representative to adorn the cover of the magazine was Wayne Gretzky on April 26, 1999. Gretzky had just retired from the NHL. Superstitious fans might also note Lundqvist's picture on the magazine - since...

A Healthy Callahan Huge for Rangers

Dave Lozo at NHL.com says, after missing the playoffs last year because of a broken leg, having a healthy Ryan Callahan will be huge for the Rangers..."This is what you play 82 games for, is this time of year," Callahan said. "Last year was hard for me, missing the playoffs not being able to be part of it. I'm excited for it this year."Here's John Tortorella...

Rangers RW Gaborik, captain Callahan miss practice

New York Rangers stud right wing Marian Gaborik missed Monday's practice with the flu and captain Ryan Callahan was also absent due to personal reasons. The pair is expected to be available for Thursday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the eighth-seeded Ottawa Senators. Gaborik collected 41 goals, 35 assists and 34 penalty minutes for the top...

Callahan The Most Underrated, Underpublicized Player in the World

Jay Adams at the Cave Magazine takes a look at why Ryan Callahan is the only captain of a major sporting team in New York to not generate any media buzz..."And that's what makes Ryan Callahan's case so peculiar. He possesses all the characteristics an NHL general manager could want. He plays in the media-hotbed of New York City. He's the captain of the best team...

Three Key Match-Ups That Will Decide Rangers vs. Senators Series

The New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators have never before met beyond regular season play, but that will change Thursday night at Madison Square Garden when the Blueshirts host the Sens in game one of the 2012 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. A top seed versus bottom seed match-up is often one that isn’t very difficult to predict before it begins, and the Rangers are arguably...

NHL Round 1 Playoff Predictions

EAST: (1) New York Rangers vs. (8) Ottawa Senators The Senators got the Rangers instead of the Bruins on the last day of the season, but will they be able to upset the top seed in the East? As surprising as this young team has been (ESPN ranked them last in the preseason rankings), they don’t have enough to beat Henrik Lundqvist and the rest of a deep New York squad.  Don’t...

NHL Playoffs Eastern Conference Preview

#1 New York Rangers vs #8 Ottawa Senators: The Rangers have been the NHL’s best team for the majority of the year and look to keep up that effort in the playoffs. The Rangers have a good combinations of veterans and young stars, along with one of the premier goalies in the NHL, Henrik Lundqvist. Mailbag: The most under publicized captain

Long time fan of the blog Andy sent me an email this morning with a link to an article put together by Jay Adams of Cave Magazine. The article looks at Rangers captain Ryan Callahan, and how he could be the most under appreciated and under publicized captain in New York sports today: Knicks captain Carmelo Anthony had a reality show on VH1. Giants captain Eli Manning has been on...

Pat Leonard at the Daily News reports that both Marian Gaborik (flu) and Ryan Callahan (personal reasons) were not at practice today, but John Tortorella says there is no long term concern for either of them....hopefully the flu doesn't send Gaborik into a slump the way it did for Lundqvist.Meanwhile, Brandon Dubinsky feels the playoffs will give him a new lease on life (Rangers...
