NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Matt Cullen scored the shootout-winning goal to give the Minnesota Wild a 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Saturday night. The Wild, who have won two of three, sent Nashville to its fourth loss in five games. Cullen and Wild captain Mikko Koivu both scored in the shootout. Craig Smith was the only Nashville shooter to score in the tiebreaker against Niklas Backstrom. Zach Parise gave the Wild a 1-0 lead in the second period. David Legwand tied it for Nashville in the third. Parise gave Minnesota its 1-0 lead at 9:01 of the second with a power-play goal. Former Predators defenseman Ryan Suter sent a shot toward the Nashville net from the middle of the blue line. Standing just to the left of goalie Pekka Rinne and with his stick about waist high, Parise got enough of the puck to tip it over Rinne's glove for his ninth goal. Minnesota has scored a power-play goal in three consecutive games for the first time this season. The visit by the Wild was Suter's first return to Nashville since leaving the Predators. Suter played his first seven NHL seasons with Nashville, the team that chose him with the No. 7 pick in the 2003 draft. Suter and Parise signed identical 13-year, 98 million contracts with Minnesota on July 4. Nashville managed to earn a point in this game after Legwand tied it with a power-play goal at 6:28 of the third. With Suter serving a roughing penalty, Predators captain Shea Weber sent a pass to Sergei Kostitsyn on the left side. Kostitsyn then slid a cross-ice pass to Legwand for a shot that sailed over Backstrom's glove. Backstrom made 24 saves through overtime. Rinne stopped 28 shots before the shootout. For the second time in two nights, the Predators sustained an injury to a forward. This time it was leading scorer Colin Wilson. Early in the second period, Wilson was checked hard into the end boards in the Minnesota zone by defenseman Justin Falk. Wilson left the game and didn't return because of an upper body injury. Wilson leads the Predators with seven goals and 12 assists. On Friday, the Predators lost forward Patric Hornqvist to an upper body injury. There is no timetable for his return. Hornqvist led the Predators in goals in two of the previous three seasons. NOTES: Minnesota RW Cal Clutterbuck returned to the lineup after missing six games with a lower body injury. Suter has a six-game point streak. ... Weber has five assists in three games.

With injuries to Hornqvist and Wilson, Trotz says Preds may look to Milwaukee…

With the injuries to last season’s leading goal scorer, Patric Hornqvist, and this season’s leading goal scorer, Colin Wilson, the Nashville Predators will be looking to their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, to fill some holes. “I think there’s a number of guys,” Head Coach Barry Trotz said of the possible candidates for a recall. “There’s obviously (Chris...

Wild Saturday: 'Whatever happens, happens'

SATURDAY'S STORY LINES: The last time Wild defenseman Ryan Suter stepped into the visiting team hotel in Nashville was 2003. The NHL draft was in Nashville that year and a young Suter was there to conduct his team interviews. Suter went on to be drafted seventh overall by the Predators and spent the first seven years of his career with the organization. Friday, Suter walked back...

Ryan Suter on playing with the Wild: "Great organization, and I'm happy to be a part of it. We have a great future ahead of us."

Saturday’s loss to Wild suggests Nashville’s offense on Friday was just an anomaly…

The Nashville Predators have had all kinds of problems finding the back of the net this season. In an effort to find some scoring without making drastic changes to the NHL roster, General Manager David Poile spent most of this past week making some moves. On Monday, he claimed Bobby Butler off waivers from the New Jersey Devils. On Tuesday, he went back to the waiver wire and plucked...

Predators 6, Oilers 0

Colin Wilson had a career-high two goals and two assists, and the Nashville Predators beat the Edmonton Oilers 6-0 Friday night to snap a three-game skid. Patric Hornqvist, David Legwand, Rich Clune and Zach Boychuk also had a goal apiece as the well-rested Predators won for the first time since Feb. 25, when they beat Dallas in overtime, by matching their season-high with six goals...

David Legwand beats Devan Dubnyk on one-hopper from the red line

Nashville Predators forward David Legwand was dumping the puck in for a line-change late in the first period.  Legwand flipped the puck in the air, and as it was on edge, it skipped at the hash marks and went off the bottom of Edmonton Oilers goalie Devan Dybnyk’s glove into the net.  Pucks that are on edge and bounce right in front of you are extremely difficult for goalies...

Blue Collar Hockey

By: Miranda Martin Miranda@PredneckNation.com Blue collar looks good on the Nashville Predators. It’s only appropriate in a region that epitomizes hard work ethic and giving everything you’ve got that their hockey team reflects the same mentality. And, finally, the Predators started to embody that aggressive, outworking team again Friday night, resulting in the team’s first...

Paul McCann: Ryan Suter's Return

SlapShot Radio’s photographer was busily snapping away last night and I will be posting the pics later... ----------------------------- Normally a nasty welcome in the south involves the phrase “bless your heart…” Well… it was an atypical Southern welcome last night for Ryan Suter. For the 25th consecutive game, at least 17,113 rapid Predator fans filled...

Preds defenseman Vic Bartley to make his NHL debut tonight vs. Oilers…

It was hinted at by The Tennessean’s Josh Cooper earlier this morning and confirmed by injured forward Brandon Yip on Twitter. Nashville Predators defenseman Victor Bartley will make his NHL debut tonight against the Edmonton Oilers. The former captain of the Regina Pats has taken an odd road to the National Hockey League, despite being just 25 years old. Bartley went undrafted...

Richard Cloutier: My Wife Knows More About Hockey Than Steve Tambellini

I feel like just reposting the blog I wrote yesterday. What an embarrassing game against the Nashville Predators. I am completely lost for words. My wife says to me on the drive home tonight, "why are the Oilers so terrible?" Fair question; she's not a hockey fan. She wants to know why I keep pulling handfuls of hair out of my head game-after-game. It took me a...

Predators dropped by the Wild in a shootout, losing Colin Wilson as well

Photo Credit: Frederick Breedon/Getty Images Following up a 6-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers, Nashville was hoping to match the intensity level using the momentum they had gained to take them into their final road trip of the season. Sans jaw protector, Clune’s lands on the fight card and on the stat sheet

Photo Credit: Frederick Breedon/Getty Images Rich Clune, picked up on waivers prior to the start of the season on January 15th, has slowly become one of Nashville’s more finely tuned spark-plugs as the Predators reach the midway point of the season. On a night where the Oilers would come in and leave with a 6-0 loss, Clune would find himself in the middle of all of the action....
