Patric Hornqvist is out of the Predators lineup with an upper-body injury

The Nashville Predators visit Joe Louis Arena on Friday night in their attempt to snap the Detroit Red Wings home winning streak. The Red Wings have won 21 consecutive home games this season and have a 24-2-1 home record since the start of the season.

The Red Wings are tops in the NHL with 80 points and currently enjoy a four-game winning streak, with a 7-2-1 record in their last 10 contests.

Both Nashville and Detroit are coming off of Tuesday night wins. Nashville hosted Chicago at Bridgestone Arena and edged the Blackhawks by a 3-2 score giving their Central Division rivals a ninth straight loss. Rookie defenseman Ryan Ellis scored the game-winning goal and picked up an assist in Nashville’s victory.

The Predators have an impressive 13-2-2 record against Central Division teams this season and hope to build on that Friday night in Detroit.

The Red Wings beat Dallas on Tuesday at home by a 3-1 score.

Patric Hornqvist was out of the lineup on Tuesday night against Chicago. If Nashville’s leading goal scorer loses a significant amount of time, his loss could be felt on the Predators power play, a power play that ranks second in the League. The power play has scored 14 goals in the last 17 games and is successful 21.5 percent of the time. On the season, Nashville has scored 41 power play goals through 57 games this season, tying their power-play output from a season ago.

Henrik Zetterberg is also out of the lineup for Detroit with a lower-body injury. Detroit Head Coach Mike Babcock told George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press that Justin Abdelkader will move up the lineup to take Zetterberg’s spot. Tomas Tatar was called up from the Grand Rapids Griffins to play on the fourth line.

Dan Cleary is also out of the lineup with a knee injury.

Predators netminder Pekka Rinne has a 9-4-3 record against the Red Wings with a 2.41 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. Rinne also has three shutouts against Detroit.

The Predators will likely face Joey MacDonald in net. Jimmy Howard is still out of the Red Wings lineup after breaking his finger, but Babcock says he should be good to play on Sunday against the Sharks.

MacDonald has never beat the Predators and has a 0-3-0 record against Nashville with a 2.89 goals against average and a .898 save percentage. This season, however, MacDonald is 4-0-0 at home in Detroit.

The Predators meet Detroit for the fourth time this season. Nashville has one win and two losses against Detroit, including the one time Nashville went to Motor City.

The first time the two teams met, the Wings beat the Predators by a 4-1 score on November 26th. Nashville evened the season series on December 15th. Detroit had a 3-1 lead but the Predators came back to win the game in dramatic fashion with Shea Weber scoring two late third period goals for the 4-3 win. The last time the two teams met was on December 26th when Detroit against beat the Predators by a 4-1 score.
