The Philadelphia Flyers made several roster moves today in preparation for their game with the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow night.  Captain Chris Pronger, who is still recovering from an eye injury he sustained over a week ago when struck by the stick of Mikhail Grabovski in a 5-2 Flyers’ win, was placed on injured reserve.  Forwards Harry Zolnierczyk and Ben Holmstrom were recalled from the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL, and practiced with the Flyers this morning before the team left for Buffalo.

To make room for the pair on the roster, Philadelphia loaned defenseman Matt Walker to the Phantoms.

This is Zolnierczyk’s second recall, the first being on October 18th when the Flyers traveled to Ottawa to take on the Senators.  Harry Z scored a highlight reel goal late in the 7-2 victory, but was promptly returned to Adirondack after the contest.  The 24-year-old left winger has scored five goals and assisted on four others in 10 games with the Phantoms.

This is the first call-up this season for the 24-year-old Holmstrom, who played in two games for Philadelphia last year in two separate recalls.  The 6′ 1″, 200-pound center was named captain of the Phantoms this season, becoming the youngest player in franchise history to wear the ‘C’.

The 31-year-old Walker appeared in three games for the Flyers.  He recorded no points, 16 penalty minutes, and sported a -2 rating.  Walker has been ineffective and was plagued by turnovers and positional play.  He has been replaced within the club’s defensive corps by Erik Gustafsson, who was recalled from Adirondack last week.
