Here are the top five stories from Bloggers’ Row and beyond for March 31.

1. Last night, the Predators knocked off the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit to move into fourth place in the Western Conference. The win was the 500th in franchise history and, thus, it was Barry Trotz’s 500th career win. Inside Smashville’s Amanda DiPaolo, Section303.com’s Jeremy Gover, Preds On The Glass’ Buddy Oakes, Smashville 24/7′s Ryan Porth and Hockey Night in Nashville’s Robby Stanley each have the story.

2. Recently, Seth Lake has begun a “Morning After” column at Inside Smashville. Here’s his blog about last night’s Detroit game. It’s in-depth, it’s long and it’s worth the read.

3. “Hell Week” comes to a close for the Predators tonight as they are back home against the Chicago Blackhawks in the last Saturday home game of the regular season. Ryan Porth has your game preview, as does Amanda DiPaolo.

4. Friday was new podcast day in Smashville. The 303:30 features the legend Buddy Oakes, as well as Dmitry Chesnokov from Yahoo Sports. Smashville on the Glass, meanwhile, always features Buddy (and Ryan), but also featured USA Today’s Kevin Allen.

5. Continuing his “Stories of the Season” feature, on Friday, On the Forecheck’s Dirk Hoag featured The Examiner’s Jim Diamond and his piece earlier this year about NHL referee Mike Hasenfrantz’s return from major cardiac surgery. Later, Dirk took his camera to the park.

Ken Holland: Fooling Wing Fans Since 28 February

Oh, the laughs. The joke’s been on us since the deadline.  All that money to spend.  Glaring deficiencies to correct. Talent to be had.  Draft picks to deal. And our big pickup sat up in the press box for the season’s biggest game to date.  That’s your review of Friday and of every day since Tick Tock Kenny Holland decided the Wings were good enough “as is”.Continue...

Detroit’s Health More Important Than Playoff Seed

from Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press, Home ice doesn’t mean as much in the Stanley Cup playoffs as home court does in the NBA playoffs. It’s more important that the Wings utilize their final games to get as healthy as possible and work the wounded—Pavel Datsyuk, Nicklas Lidstrom, Johan Franzen and Howard, who has nursed a temperamental groin for a month—back into a smooth...

Panthers face Detroit with playoffs looming

The Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers are both having trouble making progress toward their respective postseason goals. The teams, though, have a chance to earn some key points at the expense of each other during Sunday's matchup at Joe Louis Arena. Red Wings-Predators quick take: Wings, you’ve got some serious-ass problems

My favorite TV show of all time, the Liam Lynch sock puppet spectacular that was Sifl n Olly, had a fake infomercial skit, and the tagline for Precious Roy’s cheap product of the night was, “Well, you know the problems I’ve had with X” by Sifl, answered with, “Yeah, you’ve got some serious-ass X problems!” from Olly. The Detroit Red Wings ended a lost month’s worth...

The morning after: Predators ride roller coaster, but fall short in comeback

By Seth Lake While the Nashville Predators were up in Detroit on Friday night securing the 500th win in franchise history against the Red Wings, the Chicago Blackhawks were sitting in Nashville awaiting their arrival looking to avenge a 6-1 defeat last Sunday night on national television, clinch their spot in the playoffs, and keep their hopes of the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference...

Top Defenceman This Season

In November I first picked Shea Weber as the Norris Trophy leader.  When Weber lost a bit of time with a concussion my new pick was Zdeno Chara.  By early February I had Weber back in the lead.  Now that we are into the stretch drive of the season, I think Chara is back in the lead. Zdeno Chara has the top +/- rating among all defencemen in the NHL at +29.  His 49 points...

Aced the Test: Nashville Topples Detroit 4-1

Photo by Dave Reginek/NHLI via Getty Images The Nashville Predators and Detroit Red Wings went into tonight’s game with a chip on their shoulders. Both were outgunned in their last outing and looking for some revenge, especially against the team that is in the mix of playoff home-ice positioning. But it was the Nashville Predators that would come out of Motown with the two points...
