In a stroke of marketing genius, the NHL has moved its annual awards ceremony from Toronto to Las Vegas. I don't have any problem with the city of Toronto, but a few years in Vegas is probably exactly what the NHL party needs. Also new this year... The awards will be open to the public (at a hefty ticket cost, but it still sounds worth it, with a player-attended afterparty included).
The Flyers' Mike Richards is up for the Selke Trophy as the league' top defensive forward, and he's already been to Vegas to check out the scene. Richie sounds primed and ready for awards week...
“I’m (going to be) here for a week so I’m going to be able to do everything, pretty much, that Vegas has to offer,” he said.
Hiyooo... The list of things Vegas has to offer is pretty long and distinguished.
Interestingly, Richards doesn't like his chances for the Selke, giving a nod to the competition he has for the award, Pavel Datsyuk and Ryan Kesler. Personally, I think he comes home with hardware. If not, he should at least have a few good stories not to tell...
