In the first move of the day, the Rangers have acquired defenseman Justin Falk from Minnesota in exchange for Benn Ferriero and a 6th round pick in 2014. Falk, a left handed shot, had a line of 0-3-3 in 36 games this past season, with a -9 rating and 40 PIMs. Falk isn’t terrible on the metrics side of things, with a 2.0 RCorsi (-1.28 CorsiON), a -0.694 Corsi Rel QoC, and 47.9% OZone starts. Falk would slide in nicely as a bottom pairing, depth defenseman.
Falk is one big dude (6’5, 215 lbs), and is more of a stay at home guy with a big body. At just 24 years old, there is a lot of room for Falk to improve.

Per the New York Rangers' official website, the Rangers have acquired defenseman Justin Falk from the Minnesota Wild in return for Ben Ferriero and Columbus' 6th round pick in the 2014 draft.
Falk, 24, has one goal and 14 assists in 108 regular season games with the Minnesota Wild. Ferreiro, 26, was acquired from the Penguins last season in return for Chad Kolarik...
In a minor trade, the Rangers have sent forward Kris Newbury to Philadelphia for left-handed defenseman Danny Syrvet. Syvret, who was a teammate of Dan Girardi’s with London in the OHL, is essentially the defensive version of Newbury. Both players are solid at the AHL level, but neither can gain solid footing in the NHL. They are your quintessential AAAA players.
Newbury was never...
Right from the horse’s mouth, here’s the official press release from your New York Rangers. 2013 RANGERS PROSPECT DEVELOPMENT CAMP NEW YORK, June 30, 2013 –New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club will hold the 2013 Prospect Development Camp, Monday, July 1st – Friday, July 5th, [...]
The Wild are up against a wall this offseason. They need to find a little cap space, which they would do by letting go of Dany Heatley using something called a compliance buyout, but they can’t do that because he had shoulder surgery and is on the isable list. They needed to find another way to stock their roster and to get their payroll down.
The team needed to make a decision...
The Rangers looked like they were going to make a serious run at contending for a Stanley Cup until they ran into Boston in the Eastern semis. Henrik Lundqvist led the team from between the pipes but a lack of offense and a poor power play kept the Rangers from going deeper into the playoffs. Let’s take a look back at the Broadway Blueshirts.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired a sixth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and the rights to restricted free agent forward Benn Ferriero from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenseman Justin Falk.
Ferriero, 26 (4/29/87), recorded one assist in four games with the New...
Pierre-Marc Bouchard’s agent Allan Walsh confirms his client will not sign a deal with the Minnesota Wild and will be a UFA on July 5. Bouchard was selected eighth overall by Minnesota in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. On July 25, 2008, Bouchard signed a five-year, $20.4 million deal with the Wild. After suffering a hit to the head late in the 2008-09 season, Bouchard [...]
The decision not to buyout Brad Richards has been made, so there's really no sense in getting worked up about it anymore. We all know the huge risk Glen Sather took and we just have to pray the Rangers alternate captain can bounce back while staying healthy.
And it looks like he's already focusing on next season as Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com reports that Richards has been...
With the Rangers trading away this year's first and second round picks in the Rick Nash & Ryane Clowe trades respectively, Gordie Clark and his crew are going to be twiddling their thumbs for a long time before finally using the first of the Blueshirts three third round picks during tomorrow's draft.
But Clark still has a game plan going into the day (via Blueshirts...
Last night was a different one for the New York Rangers. You have to go back to 2002 to find the last time the team did not hold a first round pick, but never, since the NHL Entry Draft came into existence, have the Rangers been without both a first and a second round pick. Nonetheless, Rangers Director of Player Personnel Gordie Clark has proven time and time again that NHL players...
#Isles have acquired Cal Clutterbuck from the Wild for Nino Niederreiter.

It’s shaping up to be a crazy day around the NHL. The Rangers don’t have first- or second-round picks thanks to trades for Rick Nash and Ryane Clowe, but they do hold three picks in the third round (#65, #75 and #80 overall). It’s quite possible that New York will attempt to package a couple of those picks to move up into the second round, but don’t hold your breath on the...
The New York Rangers have traded Kris Newbury to the Philadelphia Flyers for Danny Syvret. Newbury was drafted by San Jose in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, however he would start his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, playing three short stints with the club between 2006 and 2009. On July 7, 2009, Newbury was signed [...]
This news broke yesterday, courtesy of Alex Nunn and his translation abilities (via this Swedish website), but we wanted to keep the focus on the draft. Former Ranger defenseman Ulf Samuelsson will be re-joining the Rangers as an assistant coach, working with the defense and penalty kill. Ulfie has spent the past two seasons coaching Modo in the SHL (renamed from the SEL).
