The New York Rangers can breathe a sigh of relief today, as the MRI on the shoulder of their star winger Rick Nash showed no major damage. Nash injured his shoulder playing in a game this Friday for HC Davos in the Swiss League.
The MRI results showed showed no structural damage, which is great news. The MRI did show that Nash did suffer a bone bruise on his shoulder, and is listed as day to day. The Rangers cannot afford a injury to Nash as he will indeed be a vital part of the Rangers attempt to get to the Stanley Cup finals after coming just short of making it to the Finals last season.
The injury occurred when Nash received a hard check and hit his shoulder directly against the boards . He then played one more shift after the injury happened. “Rick was taken out for precautionary reasons,” Nash’s agent, Joe Resnick told reporters. Resnick also added that he be re-evaluated over the next few days by th HC Davos trainers and will monitor the injury from there.
Rick Nash is currently playing in Swiss League along with fellow NHL star Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks while the NHL is going through a lockout. These two players also played for Davos during the 2004-05 NHL lockout.
Nash was acquired in a trade by the Rangers from Columbus over the summer. Nash is a seasoned veteran of the NHL for nine seasons. In those nine seasons, Nash has Built a very impressive resume’. In 674 games in The NHL ( all with Columbus), Nash has scored 289 goals along with 258 assists. last season, Nash scored 30 goals and 29 assists. If healthy, Nash would be a perfect addition to the Rangers offense this season.
The Rangers as well as their fans will hopefully get to see Nash showcase his talents on the ice soon, as the NHL labor talk continue. However that is a story for another day. We will have more news on Nash as reports continue to come in.
