The #NYR have agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Conor Allen, who played this season at UMASS-Amherst — New York Rangers (@NYRangers) March 29, 2013 Allen will report directly to the CT Whale on an Amateur Tryout Contract (ATO), with his Rangers contract beginning next season. The 6' 1", 210lb Allen finished his career at UMass with 14 goals, 25 assists, and 39 points. Allen was also a two-time Hockey East All-Academic Team honoree. For more on Allen visit the Rangers website. ...while I'm sure the Rangers would have rather signed Andrej Sustr (aka Chara Jr.), Allen will provide the Blueshirts with some much needed organizational depth on the blueline, which you can never have enough of. Great job by Sather getting this kid to sign. Conor Allen free agent D signed by NY Rangers. Good size, good defensive zone coverage. Hoping for solid two way play. — Leslie Treff (@HFNYRangers) March 29, 2013 Remember to follow me on Twitte...

Torts talks about coaching offense

One of the most debated topics among Rangers fans this season has been whether or not John Tortorella is in fact at fault for the offensive struggles of Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik. While most of our readership doesn’t seem to make Torts out to be a scapegoat, there are a small, but nonetheless vocal few who do point the finger at our coach. Among this group, some think Tortorella’s...

Rangers sign NCAA free agent Connor Allen

A few days ago, Steve Zipay noted that the Rangers were showing interest in NCAA free agent defenseman Connor Allen out of UMass. Today, the Rangers signed Allen to an entry-level deal. Terms of the deal are still unknown, although it is highly unlikely that the Rangers signed him for this season, as he would make contract number 50. It is more likely that his deal begins next season...

Five Marian Gaborik trades that make (some) sense

Simmons/News We have a category for “Irresponsible Rumormongering,” but this post probably belongs under “Completely Irresponsible Rumormongering That Might Raise Eklund’s Eyebrows.”  Sorry for that, but it’s that time of year… Marian Gaborik to San Jose for Dan Boyle Boyle for Gaborik is the rumor mentioned most frequently by those in the know and it also happens...

Rangers to Monitor Lundqvist After Numerous Head Shots

On Tuesday, I wondered with all the head shots Henrik Lundqvist has been taking lately along with his complains of headaches whether he was playing with a concussion. Now comes this report from Pat Leonard at the Daily News that the Rangers will be monitoring Lundqvist to see if the effects of those blows will continue... "...the Rangers will keep a watchful eye on...

Goal breakdown: Rangers still can’t solve Canadiens

This loss is a bit of a difficult one to take. The Rangers played very well int his game. They generated offense, they had a solid powerplay, but they just couldn’t solve Carey Price. Price kept it at 1-0 (on that flukey goal) for a long time before one breakdown made it 2-0. Following that, the Rangers didn’t give up (still generated good chances), but you could tell something...

Habs set for Rangers, waive Kaberle

While preparing for Saturday night's tilt with the New York Rangers, the Canadiens did something many have expected all year, and waived Tomas Kaberle. Kaberle has played little this year, dressing for only 10 games. While he has played admirably, with 3 points and a +4 rating, averaging only 13 minutes a game, Kaberle has been a spare part, as coach Michel Therrien has favoured...

Game 34 preview: Rangers at Montreal

Photo credit: AP The Rangers are in Montreal tonight to face the Canadiens for the final time this season. Luckily, this will be the last time the Rangers play Montreal, as for some reason they just can’t beat them. They’ve lost both games against the Habs this year, losing by scores of 3-1 and 3-0, with the blanking coming in Montreal. The Rangers haven’t won there in recent...

Spezza May Not Return This Season

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Senators GM Bryan Murray told CTV Ottawa before Thursday's visit by the New York Rangers that the back surgery the club's top centre had may not allow him to return this year "(Erik) Karlsson and (Spezza) are real borderline at this time," said Murray. Speaking during the morning skate, Murray said Spezza has been...

Zuccarello Out; Same Line-up vs. Senators

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that despite Mats Zuccarello officially re-signing with the Rangers this morning, he will not be in the line-up vs. the Senators tonight as the Blueshirts will stick with the same line-up that tied a season high five goals against the Flyers Tuesday night. Gross adds that Henrik Lundqvist will be back between the pipes for the ninth...
