According to Mark Spector of Sportsnet.ca, the Rangers are actively scouting Sheldon Souray. Apparently a number of Rangers scouts, as well as Glen Sather have spent some time watching Souray play for the Hershey Bears.

In my eyes it's worth taking a look at Souray only if the Oilers put him on re-entry waivers. At half the price and with one year remaining, Souray would be a low risk, high reward option. At the very worst, Souray is stashed in Hartford next season and be removed from the cap. There are going to be a lot of people thoroughly against this move, but Souray catches a bad rap and would fill a need at a limited cost.

The Rangers need a guy who can launch bombs from the point, they need a veteran defenseman, and they could use some snarl on their blueline; that's exactly what Souray is for $2.7 million. Well worth a shot.
