During a segment on Hockey Night In Canada's "Hot Stove Tonight," Elliotte Friedman says that the Rangers might have discussed a potential trade for Marian Gaborik with the Vancouver Canucks, but it wasn't a good match. Friedman adds that as part of his limited no trade clause Gaborik has given the Rangers 10 teams he cannot be traded to. Here's the video (2:15 mark)... ...Friedman is a legit guy when it comes to trade rumors, so I find this very interesting. Just looking at the Canucks roster, other than the obvious guys that the Canucks would never trade (see Sedins, Kesler), I have no idea who the Rangers would have wanted or given them equal return. ...despite Gaborik's rough go here, I'm really shocked the Rangers are actually looking to move him. He has pretty much alternated good year and bad year his entire career, so he's all setup for another 40-goal season next year. ...also very interesting that Friedman informs us that Gaborik's no trade clause is limited, meaning there are 20 teams he can be traded to without his approval. That makes it much more possible that he could be moved. ...and how about PJ Stock going after Torts for "dumping" on Gaborik all the time. I actually agree. Gaborik has never been the kind of guy who is motivated by criticism. Torts needs to know that and treat him with kid gloves. So now that this has come to fruition, I guess I have to apologize to Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun who had the Gaborik rumblings first. Speaking of Garrioch, he hits us with another crazy rumor involving the Rangers as he expects them to make a pitch for Anaheim's UFA Corey Perry this summer. Garrioch adds that Perry will want a deal similar to the eight-year, $66-million contract that C Ryan Getzlaf signed with the Ducks. ...with the Rangers cap situation, there is no way they have room to fit that salary. However, anything can happen. Including a trade for Gaborik and a Richards buyout this summer. I don't see either happening, but you can't put that possibility past Sather, who could actually be on the hot seat this summer if the Rangers fail to make the playoffs. Perry has 9g, 15a this season and was a 50-goal scorer two years ago. Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at nyrfan94@yahoo.com.
