The Rangers have traded winger Derek Dorsett to the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a third round pick (#85) in this year’s draft. With the cap rumored to be around $68 million, the Rangers needing to sign some key UFAs and RFAs, and the emergence of Dan Carcillo as a viable option for the fourth […] The post Rangers trade Derek Dorsett to Vancouver appeared first on Blue Seat Blogs.

Rangers trade Dorsett to Canucks for a pick

The Rangers have traded Derek Dorsett to the Canucks in exchange for a third round pick (85th overall) in the 2014 draft. I speculated earlier that Dorsett may be traded in favor of Dan Carcillo or a cheaper alternative for the fourth line as a means to open up some cap space. A third round pick for a fourth line face puncher isn’t a bad return for the Rangers.

Should the Rangers trade negotiating rights of Boyle / Stralman?

Based on the comments made by both Brian Boyle and Anton Stralman, it looks like both will be playing in different uniforms next season. Boyle has said he is looking for a bigger role –likely a third line role with less defensive zone starts– and won’t get that in New York. Stralman is looking for […] The post Should the Rangers trade negotiating rights of Boyle / Stralman...

Dorsett Traded to Canucks for 3rd Round Pick

Rangers have traded winger Derek Dorsett to Vancouver for a third-round pick — Larry Brooks (@NYP_Brooksie) June 27, 2014 The Rangers now have the 85th and 89th picks in the 3rd round tomorrow. Dorsett was going into the final year of his contract that paid him $1.633M per. …looks like a salary cap dump to me. Assuming this means Carcillo will be back on the cheap. #carcilloeffect...

Lavoie: Pouliot generating interest, wants long-term deal

Per Renaud Lavoie, winger Benoit Pouliot is looking for a long-term deal and will likely get it. Ten teams have already contacted the winger. One of those teams is obviously the Rangers, as they are looking to keep Pouliot in New York. Pouliot was one of the best bargains in the NHL last year, finding […] The post Lavoie: Pouliot generating interest, wants long-term deal appeared...

Rangers 2014 draft picks and summary

The Rangers started the 2014 NHL draft with just four picks (2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th), but eventually made six selections (2nd, 3rd, 4th, three 5ths) in the draft. We will be taking an in-depth look at the selections, but here is a brief summary of the past two days (live blogs here and here): Traded […] The post Rangers 2014 draft picks and summary appeared first on Blue Seat Blogs.

Lavoie: Talks with Stralman not going well

Per Renaud Lavoie, talks between the Rangers and UFA defenseman Anton Stralman are not going as planned. The Rangers are allotting $4 million to Stralman, but it definitely seems that Stralman will get north of $4.5 million, probably closer to the $5 million that Andrew MacDonald got from Philadelphia. If AMac’s contract wasn’t enough proof, […]

Boyle Headed To Free Agency; Pouliot Getting 3-Year, $9M Offers

Any Rangers fan hoping that next year’s roster will resemble last year’s Stanley Cup Finalist squad is going to be sorely disappointed. Wednesday night, we heard that talks with Anton Stralman are not going well, now Pat Leonard at the Daily News is reporting that Brian Boyle plans on heading to free agency. Leonard says that Boyle’s agent wouldn’t comment on the status of...

What Do the Rangers Need To Do This Off-Season?

#487565547 / gettyimages.com After a promising run last season all the way to the Stanley Cup Final, do the Rangers have a lot or a little to do in the off season? Everyone has their own opinions on how it should be done, but lets face it, none of us are GM’s and we really don’t have a say in what will happen. But, what is true about New York, if you can score, we’ll love...

Pouliot Has Requested Multi-Year Deal In Contract Talks With Rangers

Beniot Pouliot’s contract situation is very similar to Anton Stralman’s. Almost every Rangers fan wants him back, but they’re not willing to overpay to do it. Katie Strang at ESPN says that the Rangers have spoken contract with Pouliot since the end of the season and the winger is looking for a multi-year deal to stay in New York. Pouliot’s last five contracts have been one...

2014 Draft preview: Chase De Leo, Reid Gardiner

The 2014 NHL Draft is just hours away, and the Rangers will draft in the second round with the 59th overall pick in the draft. The Rangers traded their first rounder this year in the Martin St. Louis trade, so this will mark the second straight year without a pick in the first round. Chase De Leo Position: C Height: 5-8 Weight: 175 De […] The post 2014 Draft preview: Chase...

Why Are The Rangers Getting Rid Of Their Fourth Line?

A very disturbing trend seems to be taking place this offseason for the Rangers…the very integral fourth line is being split up. The first shoe to drop was the jettisoning of Derek Dorsett to the Canucks yesterday for a third round pick. Add that to Brian Boyle choosing free agency over negotiating a new contract with the Rangers along with Larry Brooks calling Dominic Moore...

Clark: Rangers trading into first round “unlikely”

As the draft approaches tonight, Andrew Gross spoke with Gordie Clark to discuss the prospects, and any chances that the Rangers would move into the first round. Clark noted that it is unlikely that the Rangers move into the first round, citing the lack of depth in this year’s draft as one of the main […] The post Clark: Rangers trading into first round “unlikely” appeared...

140th Overall: Rangers Select Defenseman Daniel Walcott

The New York Rangers selected their second defensemen of the draft, Daniel Walcott, with the 140th overall pick. Walcott, like Nejezchleb, is a bit older. He was undrafted in the QMJHL draft. He played club hockey for Lindenwood University, a very tiny school, during the 2012-2013 season. He was then signed by the Blainville-Broisbrand Armada of the QMJHL and as a 19-year-old was...

Rangers Injury Update: Cam Talbot recovering from a broken hand

Right before the Stanley Cup finals were set to begin, the New York Rangers lost their back-up goalie, Cam Talbot to an undisclosed injury. Troy Bongi-Wikimedia CommonsIn an interview during breakup day after the Rangers lost to the Los Angeles Kings, Talbot said the injury happened during game 6 warm-up against the Montreal Canadiens. During the warm up, Talbot said he was reaching...

Thoughts heading into the Draft

The 2013-2014 postseason was such an emotional ride, I needed to take a little step back after the Rangers were tragically eliminated in Los Angeles two weeks ago. Sure, I did a report card and may have twittered once or twice, but I needed a break to collect myself. Big props to the crew here […] The post Thoughts heading into the Draft appeared first on Blue Seat Blogs.
