The Bruins improved to 5-0 on their home stand with an ugly victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Garden tonight. Tuukka Rask was stellar, making 30 saves on 31 Columbus shots.
Derek MacKenzie deflected a Nikita Nikitin slap shot past Rask for the first goal of the game, 2:49 into the second period. Boston responded at 4:24 when Adam McQuaid’s shot ricocheted off of some bodies and into the net to tie the contest at a goal apiece.
After Boston and Columbus failed to score for the remainder of regulation, the Bruins and ‘Jackets each had a number of power play opportunities in the extra period. However, neither squad could capitalize and the game would be decided by shootout.
Tyler Seguin scored in round two of the shootout, but he was equaled by Mark Letestu, who roofed a shot past Rask to keep the shoot out going. David Krejci wristed one high glove side past Curtis Sanford, and Rask shut the door on Antonie Vermette to seal the deal for the B’s.
