The Boston Bruins are hoping they can take advantage of the shortened season with a veteran team that's largely the same as last year.
The big difference is the absence of goalie Tim Thomas, who has decided to sit out a season. The team has placed the two-time Vezina Trophy winner on the suspended list.
That means Tuukka Rask is the No. 1 goalie for now. Rask had the job in 2010 when Thomas struggled with a hip injury.
The Bruins were the defending Stanley Cup champions when they won the Northeast Division last year. But were bounced from the playoffs in the first round in seven games by the Washington Capitals.

Tuukka Rask is the Boston Bruins biggest question in 2013
Rejoice ye’ puck fanatics and repent the evil that was the NHL lockout! On Saturday, a little over three months since the NHL season was supposed to start, the Boston Bruins will begin their campaign for the Stanley Cup on Saturday evening in Boston where they take on the New York Rangers. While Tuesday’s “loss” to...
For the upcoming shortened NHL season to end in another cup
for the Bruins, this must be a breakthrough year for our young talent. Here I
am primarily referring to Tyler Seguin and Tuukka Rask. These are two guys who can be superstars in
this league for years to come, and if they play to the level they are capable
of consistently, they will carry the team to playoff success for...
It’s tough to think that Bruins fans may need extra or added reasons to watch the Bruins now that hockey is back. Just seeing the game back on ice across the continent will be good enough for many.
But if for some reason you need a little extra motivation or added incentive, here’s one reason (there are plenty more) to watch every single Bruins game this season, starting with...
We could sit here, and I could very well give you your standard formulaic season preview of what's on the horizon for the Boston Bruins in 2013. That's not fun, though, and nor will it ever be fun. There's a thousand other blogs where you can find that information, so we won't even bother going down that road. Instead, we're going to talk about the issues facing...
Dougie Hamilton is just 19 years old and has yet to appear in an NHL game, so Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli finds it difficult to put a ceiling on what exactly the big defenseman could accomplish in his career. But when asked who Hamilton compares to, Chiarelli threw out a couple of interesting names.
Chiarelli said that Hamilton’s skill set reminds him of Larry Robinson...
Hamilton will wear number 27 this season, and should be paired with Dennis Seidenberg on the 2nd D Pairing
Thank you Toronto! In 2009 the Bruins sent skilled forward Phil Kessel North to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for two first round picks (2010 and 2011) and a second round pick (2010). In 2010 we had the 2nd overall pick and the 32nd pick thanks to the trade, drafting...
The massive amounts of hetero man-love we hold for Shawn Thornton is known far and wide across the land, and a big reason is that his interviews are always classic. The interview he gave at the Hockey Ressurection Party last night was no exception.
We hoped to have this up earlier, but Youtube was being a pain in the ass, but all good things to those who wait.
The Bruins players, and their fans, are ready for Saturday night’s season opener
The Bruins got back on the ice Tuesday night as they faced off against the Providence Bruins in the Garden. Personally, my expectations were not high for this scrimmage, seeing as how the Bruins haven’t played an actual game together in over half a year. That, along with the fact that these are scrimmages...
During last nights scrimmage with the their AHL affiliates, it wasn't just the Boston Bruins who were shaking off the dust. Collectively, across New England and beyond, we, the forever loyal Boston Bruins fans, snapped and shook the **** from our jerseys and began to prepare mentally for what will be most definitely be a whirlwind thunder-**** of a season. We have giggled giddily...
Anyone who has pics of the event shoot us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We want to create a Facebook album with everyone's pics.
Last night was Hockey Resurrection at the Harp and over 600 fans came out toe celebrate the return of the NHL and Boston Bruin hockey. Shawn Thornton, Lyndon Byers and the legendary Rene Rancourt also came out to kick off the season in...
Next up is the Northeast Division #1. Boston Bruins- Without Tim Thomas, this would be a bold choice, but with how weak the division is, this is an easy pick. Two years removed from a Stanley Cup and the Bruins are looking to climb that mountain once again. Young gun, Tyler Seguin is leading the charge for the [...]
Let's Hope Some Rangers Hit the Ice On Saturday
At 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night the Garden will be packed in Black and Gold as the New York Rangers come to town to kick off the 2013 NHL season.
The Bruins have to realize that they must step on the gas and not let up. With 12 players playing overseas during the lockout, we are already a step ahead in terms of...
Although it may be tough to believe, hockey season is actually here. The Bruins are back. The regular season opens up Friday, when the Rangers come to town to take on the B's at the TD Garden.
When the puck drops at seven, the two teams will battle it out for the first time this season. Both teams are relying on the little bit of practice that they've had as a whole...
8 a.m. ET: This is the day hockey fans have been waiting on for way too long. The NHL is back, and it’s back in a big way.
The lockout is over, the accelerated training camp has finished and it’s time to get after it. Professional hockey returns to rinks everywhere on Saturday, and there may not be a better game on the docket than the one set to take place in Boston.
