Last week the Carolina Hurricanes traded veteran defenseman Tomas Kaberle to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for another defender Jaroslav Spacek. The move was purely a salary cap move by the Hurricanes. Spacek carries a $3.833 million cap hit and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. While Kaberle has a $4.25 cap for two more seasons. #bbpBox_145185346634776576 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0018b3; }#bbpBox_145185346634776576 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Expensive contract aside, the change in scenery could do Kabs some good. Although after this move, Kaberle has ate up more of the Habs cap space. As General Manager Gauthier have the likes of Carey Price, Josh Go...

Kaberle's Impact, Gorges Upset, Garrison, MLSE Sale and More

Happy Monday. It seems Tomas Kaberle had the desired effect on Saturday, as he obtained two assists in a 2-1 win over the Devils. Perhaps even more importantly, his presence seemed to awaken a previously dismal man advantage. As for his one-on-one coverage, such as on Nick Palmieri's goal, that is sometimes another story. The Canadiens have managed to collect points in...

Canes Woes Worsened By Injuries

The negatives for the Carolina Hurricanes just keep piling up. The newest news may just be the bottoming out point for the team and franchise: Jeff Skinner has a concussion and his return is unknown. The 19-year-old phenom, who leads the team in goals with 12 and points with 24, was hit in last Wednesday's loss at Edmonton. He worked out the next morning, and it wasn't...

While Skinner, Pitkanen wait, Harrison recovers

While the Hurricanes acknowledged the bad news about Jeff Skinner and Joni Pitkanen on Wednesday -- both are out indefinitely with what have finally been confirmed are concussions -- Jay Harrison couldn’t have been happier to be back on the ice. He has missed 10 games and three weeks -- the entire Kirk Muller Era -- with an “upper body” injury that has now been...

Canadiens D Campoli to return to lineup Tuesday

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Chris Campoli will return to the lineup for Tuesday's game against the New York Islanders. Campoli has been sidelined since suffering a torn hamstring in the season opener against Toronto. The 27-year-old Campoli spent last season with Ottawa and Chicago, notching four goals and 17 assists in 77 games.

Skinner out tonight, to be evaluated

TORONTO — Canes forward Jeff Skinner will miss tonight's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs and his return won't be determined until a medical evaluation in Raleigh. Skinner, the Canes' top scorer, missed the Winnipeg game Friday. He is out with an undisclosed injury and has spent the past few days with his family in nearby Markham. Canes coach Kirk Muller said...

Canadiens/Islanders, Terry Murray Fired, Kaberle, Crosby and More

Good morning addicts. As it turns out, the fifth member of the coaching brethren was fired yesterday as Terry Murray was let go by the Los Angeles Kings. He will be replaced on an interim basis by John Stevens. Stevens, you may recall, coached the Philadelphia Flyers a few years ago. Namely, he led the Flyers to the Conference Final in 2008. Five coaches have been fired...

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Toronto Maple Leafs 12/13/11 Scoring Chances

One of the ongoing stories for this season is how the Hurricanes goaltending, specifically Cam Ward, has not been nearly good enough this season. Going into tonight, Ward had a sub-.900 save percentage, an even strength save percentage that's way below the league average and only one quality outing in his last seven games. Last season, he was the main reason why this team was...

Video- Cam Ward One Frustrated Goalie

Cam Ward was the story in the Canes loss to the Leafs tonight. He stopped 36 out of 38 shots but still lost in OT.

Isles fall 5-3 to the Canadiens

By Daniel Friedman Last night's game in Montreal was one the New York Islanders will wish to soon forget. The Canadiens were able to grab the two points by defeating the Isles 5-3 at the Bell Centre. Don't let the (relatively) close score fool you: This was a mismatch from the opening face-off, and though the Isles would eventually wake up, it'd just be too little...

Leafs 2, Canes 1 (OT)

TORONTO — Canes coach Kirk Muller talked of taking baby steps, and baby steps they have been. Scoring some power-play goals. Those are small steps. Notching a road win in Edmonton. Another small step. Scoring a late goal on the road to force overtime. Another step. Getting Cam Ward completely back on his game would be a big step for Muller and the Canes. But what they got from...
