Photo: CHARLES KRUPA BOSTON— The Bruins took to the ice Thursday hoping to grab their third win in a row and their second in four days on home ice. Standing in the way of that goal were the New York Islanders , who came into last night’s tough, grinding tilt having won two games in a row against the always-tough Tampa Bay Lighting and Philadelphia Flyers, both by 4-1 margins. This game represented two teams on opposite ends of the spectrum, one on the upswing, much to the delight of the Nassau Coliseum faithful and the other one struggling, but still among the elite in the Eastern Conference. The last time these two teams played, Boston won a hard-fought contest at Nassau 4-1 on February 26. However, as the rest of the league can attest to, this Islanders team is a lot different than the one that laced up the skates a month and a half ago. The visiting team struck first as Josh Bailey rattled the cage at the 19:39 mark in the first frame.  The play started when Mark Streit, moving...

Bruins Dealing With More Bad News Than Good Despite Taking Over First Place in Division (Video)

Playing “good news, bad news” usually entails a little bit of each one. Unfortunately for the Bruins, it’s been more of the latter in recent days. With Brad Marchand sidelined after suffering a concussion and Patrice Bergeron already out of the lineup with one of his own, the Bruins are certainly looking for some good news. Hopefully, they can find that against the Islanders...

Weak Penalty Kill is Biggest Concern in Bruins Loss (Video)

The Bruins couldn’t come away with a win against the Hurricanes on Saturday night, and poor special teams play was part of the problem. The ‘Canes scored their game-winner on a power play toward the end of the game, and the Bruins failed to capitalize on their opportunities in front of the net. The loss to a struggling Carolina team makes it harder to make a case for the Bruins...

Isles Get Best Of Bruins In Potential Playoff Preview

Josh Bailey leads his teammates through the line after scoring his second goal of the night. In a potential playoff preview, the Islanders came into the Garden and proved they can play with the big boys. They took advantage of a couple Bruins‘ mistakes and continued their recent surge, improving to 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. Ultimately, it was a seeing-eye shot and a very late...

Bruins Blame Empty Gas Tank for Listless Performance in Loss to Surging Islanders

BOSTON — The Bruins were up against it Thursday night against the New York Islanders. The B’s were playing their second game in as many nights and their third game in four nights to begin the week. Yet for the first 20 minutes it looked like the B’s seemed ready to take on that challenge and perhaps conquer it. However, with less than a minute to play in the first, Josh Bailey...
