Found January 28, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
The Detroit Red Wings somewhat appropriately flew back to treacherous, icy weather in Southeastern Michigan on Sunday night, hoping to avoid accidents on the road after lapses in confidence, execution and self-confidence played large parts in the team's slip-and-slide 2-1 overtime loss to Chicago--minus an MRI-bound Darren Helm (back)--hoping to tweak the team's woeful power play (it went 0-for-6 in 11:17 of PP time) and avoid injuries during Monday's practice before wrapping up a slate of three games in five nights against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The Wings now possess a 2-2-and-1 record, with only one of their wins coming in regulation time, and their 2-for-26 power play, inability to score goals in the first period and their understandable but still inexcusable lack of confidence as the team attempts to forge a post-Nicklas Lidstrom identity--though it should be noted that the power play stank on ice for the final two seasons of Nicklas Lidstrom and Tomas Holmst...

Red Wings Monday practice post in progress: Filppula’s skipping, Gustavsson’s skating, no Helm news

On the heels of a frustrating 2-1 overtime loss to Chicago, DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose announced that the Red Wings' players would in fact brave the half-to-three quarters of an inch's worth of ice coating the roads in Metro Detroit this morning to head down to Joe Louis Arena... #RedWings are scheduled to skate at 12 EST today at JLA. Stay tuned for all...

Bertuzzi kisses Datsyuk after scoring goal

This pass from Pavel Datsyuk on Friday Night against the Minnesota Wild was simply incredible.  A saucer pass over two sticks right on to Todd Bertuzzi’s stick?  Absolutely fantastic.  Bertuzzi was obviously very happy that Datsyuk made such a great pass.  It was Bertuzzi’s first game of the season, and after scoring his second goal of the game, he planted a kiss right on...

Red Wings take a line from Slap Shot: ‘Get the power play together!’ ‘Yeah, we’re working on it’

Lost admist the cavalcade of injury updates during and immediately after the Red Wings' practice on Monday (see: Darren Helm (back) needs rest and may return next Tuesday, Jonas Gustavsson (groin) practiced and may play in one of the Wings' back-to-back games this weekend, Mikael Samuelsson (groin) did not skate, Ian White (thigh laceration) is probably a week out, Carlo...

The real story about Tomas Holmstrom’s decision to wear #96

I'm still positing updates regarding tonight's game between the Red Wings and Dallas Stars tonight (7:30 PM EST, FSD Plus, FS SW Plus, WXXYT AM) in a single post, but even though Paul has already pointed KK readers toward the CBC's Elliotte Friedman's 30 Thoughts column, this quip merits mentioning in a stand-alone fashion. When Tomas Holmstrom retired a week ago...

Crain’s Detroit Business: Ilitches may want State of Michigan to own JLA’s follow-on rink

Crain's Detroit Business's Bill Shea promised a blockbuster on Sunday evening, and he's delivered. According to Shea, Ilitch Holdings and Olympia Entertainment, who do not own but instead lease Joe Louis Arena from the City of Detroit, are proposing that that their follow-on rink be owned by and leased from the State of Michigan: The Ilitch family, which owns the...

Things just got a whole lot tougher for the Red Wings as Darren Helm’s had a ‘setback’

Urgh. I was wondering why I was tossing and turning during my pre-game nap, but ahead of tonight's game between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks (7 PM ET, FSD/CSN Chicago/WXYT AM), RedWingsFeed provides us with bad news from Fox Sports Detroit's Trevor Thompson... #RedWings Patrick Eaves in tonight, Darren Helm out with a setback with his back. Jonathan...

Video blog: Holmstrom through the years

My memories of Tomas Holmstrom -- from "dog yard" to "Goldilocks."

Red Wings-Hawks quick take: sloppy execution dooms Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are most certainly a team in search of an identity that they have yet to find. The Wings looked downright scared throughout the first and second periods of their 2-1 overtime loss to the Chicago Blackhawks--giving the Hawks a 6-and-0 start--but the Wings played with so much guts, gusto and grit in the third period, tying the game and sending it to OT thanks...

Detroit Red Wings Preview: Wings Look to Get Back Into the Win Column Against Ho-Hum Stars

This year’s iteration of the Detroit Red Wings—at least thus far—can be described as decidedly average, but can improve on that mediocrity tonight at home against a struggling Dallas Stars team. Once Western Conference Playoff enemies, the Stars and Wings are almost mirror-images of themselves this season. While Dallas has played one more game, both squads sport two wins...

2013 Game 7 Preview: Dallas Stars @ Detroit Red Wings

Dallas Stars (2-3-1, 5 pts) @ Detroit Red Wings (2-2-1, 5 pts) 6:30 PM CT Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan The Red Wings Like Dallas, the Wings have been off to a shaky start. They’ve alternated between wins and losses so far this season (on track for a win tonight if the trend continues) though their play has looked better the past few games. The Wings lost...

Red Wings-Blackhawks game-day updates: Ericsson’s slated to return for Wings; Hawks didn’t skate

In theory, anyway, the Detroit Red Wings' uphill battle against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight (7 PM EST, FSD/CSN Chicago, AM 1270) was supposed to yield very little in terms of game-day news as NHL.com's Brian Hedger reported that neither team would hold a morning skate (the Blackhawks will be playing their sixth game in nine nights this evening, and the Wings aren't...

Hawks vs Red Wings Recap: 1.27.13

I didn't get a chance to watch the game as I was traveling all day.  I was in the car for 11 hours today...the ice at the United Center could not have possibly been as smooth and as think as the ice on I-90 in Minnesota today.  Wisconsin was all snow and Illinois was all idiots...though that wasn't much of a surprise. Here is Twig's recap of the loss tonight (Al...

Red Wings-Stars set-up and overnight report: a pair of ‘teams in progress’ meet for the second time

The Detroit Red Wings will face off against the Dallas Stars tonight (7:30 PM EST, FSD Plus, Fox Sports Southwest Plus, AM 1270) hoping to rebound from a disappointing loss against Chicago while playing a team in somewhat similar circumstances. The Stars have also undergone some roster revisions (see: Ray Whitney, Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy), they've welcomed Jamie Benn back...

Red Wings-Wild wrap-up and overnight report: Wings slowly finding their footing?

If you only watched the Minnesota Wild out-shoot the Red Wings 11-6 in the first period of what turned out to be an ugly but livable-withable 5-3 Red Wings victory, or watched the Wings take two of their eight(!) penalties within the first ten minutes of said first period, you would have been forgiven for assuming that the Wings were on their way to yet another predictable 2013 season...
