Hitchcock restoring Blues' confidence

ST. LOUIS Not long after his team earned another victory in his short St. Louis Blues tenure, coach Ken Hitchcock marked the growth under his leadership. He called the second period of a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday one of the best the Blues had played since he replaced Davis Payne on Nov. 6. To Hitchcock, his vision had started to mature. Hitchcock spoke...

GDT - Game #26:  Red Wings at Blues (7:30)

An important Central Division tilt tonight.  The Red Wings (16-8-1) are three points out of the Central lead, with three games in hand on CHI.  The Blues (14-9-3) trail DET by only two points. Both teams play a similar game.  Each are excellent at even strength (DET 3rd, STL 2nd), and are among the league leaders in GA/G.  While DET’s PP unit swills some whiskey now and again...

Red Wings-Blues quick take: repetitive errors and the paper confidence tiger

The Detroit Red Wings dropped a 3-1 decision to the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night because the Wings chose not to learn lessons from their 4-2 loss to Colorado on Sunday, at least until it was too late for anything other than a a final flourish: for the second game in a row, the Wings were out-worked, out-hustled and ground down by a team that paid just a little more attention...

Realignment plan Wings can live with

DETROIT -- Sooner or later they had to do something, and they finally did. In what many believe to be a bold move, the NHL Board of Governors on Monday approved a realignment plan that creates two seven team conferences and two eight team conferences that are geographically based and stress conference rivalries. Pending final approval from the NHL Players' Association, the...

Chris was added as an author three months later.  Both are washed up college hockey...

1st period update: Blues 0, Red Wings 0

Brian Elliott gets the start in goal for the Blues.

Time to shake blues from previous loss

The loss has lingered for three weeks since the Red Wings last played the Blues. The Wings got shown up in that Nov. 15 game, dropping a 2-1 decision as a result of being badly outplayed after the first period and failing to convert on six power plays. A few days later, the Wings began a seven-game winning streak, but that ended Sunday at Colorado after a similarly flat performance.
