The Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders put an end to their respective six-game losing skids on Saturday. Reigning Norris Trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom scored two goals and Jimmy Howard made 22 saves for his seventh career shutout as the Red Wings posted a 5-0 victory over the road-weary Anaheim Ducks. Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg scored 50 seconds apart early in the second period to make it 3-0 as the Red Wings (6-5-1) took 50 shots and won for the first time since starting the season 5-0-0. Detroit improved to 29-3-0 all-time at home against Anaheim. In Uniondale, N.Y., P.A. Parenteau scored with 1:46 remaining in the third period to snap a tie as the Islanders skated to a 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals. John Tavares tallied twice for New York, which put an end to their 0-4-2 skid.
