TSN posted quite the feature on Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall's status as a cult hero and then some in Detroit, and perhaps as a villain in other cities, and HockeyWebCaster uploaded it to YouTube: And yes, Kronwall insists that he's trying to keep things as clean as he can while leading the Wings' defense and trying to keep the physical edge to his game while playing anywhere between 22-27 minutes a night.

Wings put pedal to metal for full 60 minutes

All season long, Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall has pleaded and prodded his teammates to play a full 60 minutes. Saturday afternoon in Chicago, Kronwall finally got his wish. In a dominating performance that ranks right up there in Detroit playoff lore, the Wings received contributions from each and every player and dispatched the Blackhawks rather easily, 4-1, to even...

Red Wings prospect news: Jarnkrok wins gold with Sweden; Frk’s Mooseheads stumble at Memorial Cup

Team Sweden captured the World Championship today, defeating Switzerland 5-2, and while Niklas Kronwall's definitely proud of his brother Staffan (who captained the team) having won the first Swedish gold on home ice since 2006, and Damien Brunner's probably paying some lost bets this evening... One Wings prospect did take part in the Worlds, and he shared a gold-filled...

Ken Holland’s low expectations = proper expectation management?

SI's Stu Hackel suggests that Red Wings GM Ken Holland's purposefully low-set expectations for his team's 2013 season serve as nothing less than a sterling example of how every team's management and ownership should realistically address their team's personnel issues, using the "Cuppy Cuppy Cuppy" turned every-spring "Woe is us!" phenomenon...

Patrick Kane goal and did Henrik Zetterberg take a dive?

Nice goal by Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane. One of the lone bright spots in tonight's game for the Blackhawks. The Redwings proved to be the better team again for a second game in a row. If your a fan of either team, you might not be the one to ask. Watch the video, I want to see if anyone else is seeing this as well. It appears that Detroit forward Henrik Zetterberg...

Wings Must Play Big And Match Chicago’s Effort Tonight

from Craig Custance of ESPN (paid subscription), The best playoff teams have that element of size and strength in their top-six, and it's something Abdelkader provides for Detroit. Over the course of a long series, his physical style against the Blackhawks' best players can potentially chip away at their will and wear them down.... And Ericsson has settled in as...

Brendan Smith Scores Game-Winner in Game 2 Off Henrik Zetterberg Pass: Video

Brendan Smith might have been the goat of the Detroit Red Wings’ Game 1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. The young defenseman redeemed himself in a big way on Saturday, playing a solid game in his own end and netting the eventual game-winner. With the Wings and Blackhawks tied at one late in the second period (and the Wings controlling the play), Smith jumped into the rush and...

Jonathan Toews vs. the World, I mean Red Wings?

Sportsnet posted quite the clip hyping the "Red Wings and Henrik Zetterberg vs. Jonathan Toews' frustration" angle heading into Game 3 between Detroit and Chicago this evening (7:30 PM EDT, NBCSN/CBC/97.1 FM, post-game on FSD). Toews! Zetterberg! Babcock! Kronwalled? Not likely, but TSN duly noted that the Hawks possess a 9-1-and-1 record at Joe Louis Arena...

Brad Stuart Crushes Justin Williams With Clean Hit

It appears that playing with Niklas Kronwall rubbed off on Brad Stuart.  The San Jose Sharks defenseman laid Los Angeles Kings forward Justin Williams with this Kronwall-esque hit late in the first period.  Stuart timed the hit perfectly and Williams could do nothing by the time he looked up and realized what was coming for him. The Twenty-Cent Opera And Not-So-Secret Biases

Jonathan Toews is a broken little boy.  The past couple of days he has gone to bed muttering to hiimself, when not biting his pillow, and waking up needing to change his sheets.  He is haunted by his personal boogeyman, Henrik Zetterberg, whose defensive coverage of Toews has been so suffocating, the lack of oxygen affecting "Tazer's" brain and emotional stability...

Blackhawks’ Joathan Toews irked by Red Wings’ physical play

The Detroit Red Wings elevated just about every aspect of their game during their 4-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, but while Henrik Zetterberg told the Chicago Sun-Times' Mark Lazerus that his somewhat personal battle with Jonathan Toews (and more than a few Blackhawks who tried to take the heads off of Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and Valtteri Filppula, among others...

Red Wings among many organizations reaching out to help family of fallen firefighter

As mentioned yesterday, the Red Wings are holding a charitable drive on Thursday to honor a fallen firefighter, and the Deaborn Press and Guide's Joe Slezak offers more details about the event: The Detroit Red Wings are encouraging fans attending Thursday’s playoff game against the Chicago Blackhawks at Joe Louis Arena to help “Fill a Boot” to benefit the family of...

Detroit Red Wings make statement in Game 2 win over Chicago Blackhawks

It is commonly said that regular season success doesn't always translate to success in the postseason in the NHL.  The Detroit Red Wings proved that with a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals. It was the first time that the Blackhawks had lost to the Red Wings in regulation since April 10, 2011.  Since then, the Blackhawks...

Red Wings hope to aid fallen firefighter’s family on Thursday

According to Red Wings community relations manager Christy Hammond, the Red Wings are holding a charitable drive for a fallen firefighter's family this Thursday: The Detroit Red Wings encourage fans coming down to Game 4 of the Western Conference Semifinals to make a donation to help ‘Fill a Boot’ at any of the arena entrances this Thursday, May 23, against the Chicago...

Morning Skate: Wings need to finish strong

By DAVE DYEFOXSportsDetroit.com The Detroit Red Wings reverted back to their third-period woes in Game 1 against Chicago. They got outscored 3-0 and outshot 19-9, which turned a tight game into a 4-1 loss. The Wings had the same problems early in the Anaheim series during the last round.
