Because of the Olympic break this season there are two trading deadlines in the NHL. The first begins Friday at 3 p.m. (and expires at noon Feb. 23) — the second deadline on March 5. Don’t expect the Red Wings to do anything by Friday. With the emergence of forwards Riley Sheahan, Tomas Jurco and Luke Glendening since they arrived from Grand Rapids, the depth on defense and goaltending in the minor leagues, the Red Wings will sit still for now. “I don’t envision us trading away players who could be part of our future,” general manager Ken Holland said. “Those are the players other teams will be asking about.” Many analysts felt there would be several big trades leading to Friday’s pre-Olympic trade deadline, but they haven’t happened. Buffalo goalie Ryan Miller (East Lansing) and forward Matt Moulson, New York Islanders forward Thomas Vanek, and Calgary forward Mike Cammalleri (Michigan) are some big names expected to be auctioned off. But the parity in the standings and the fact teams would be on the financial hook for those players an extra three weeks is keeping the phone lines quiet. “I don’t know if there are many players on the market who we feel are better than (young players the Red Wings currently have),” Holland said. With Jonas Gustavsson and Petr Mrazek (Grand Rapids) behind Jimmy Howard, the Red Wings like their goaltending depth, and when Pavel Datsyuk (lower body), Johan Franzen (concussion) and Stephen Weiss (sports hernia) return, the forward depth will be significant.
