Former TML GM & NHL Agent Bill Watters thinks Gary Bettman's will bring in replacement players in NOV, & thinks this will crack the Union. — Josh Rimer (@JoshRimerHockey) October 2, 2012 NHL teams may be resuming play sooner than you think. There's only one issue - the roster might look very different than what you saw in 2011-12. Bill Watters, former assistant GM to Toronto and player agent, stated on Josh Rimer's show that replacement players could be coming to an arena near you. Watters believes that Gary Bettman will use replacements, or scabs, to shatter the player's union all but ensuring a "victory" for the NHL and its owners in the current CBA debacle. The term replacement player and scab are being used a bit liberally in the statements and reports. It's not as if the NHL would go find a group of players off the street and toss them into a game. Instead, the NHL would work with each team's list of 50 reserve players. Of th...

The Bettman Book

from Luke Fox of Sportsnet, The release of Jonathon Gatehouse’s new book, The Instigator: How Gary Bettman Remade the League and Changed the Game Forever(Penguin), could perhaps only be better timed if it had hit shelves on the day of the NHL commissioner’s retirement. No figure is more central to the frustrating tale of the NHL’s current lockout or the league...

Great reasons I was looking forward to watching 2012 Canucks camp

I missed not having training camp! Hey everyone, it’s been a while, but what’s a month between blogs, right? Especially when we’re 18 days into a lockout. But, today I’ve got a little something for you. No, I’m not going to break the news that Gary Bettman was struck by a bus and that at least one of the Fehr brothers was seen dancing on or around his flattened corpse....

Evening Line

“You hope it doesn’t go too long, but it’s tough to grasp when you’ve got a guy in Gary Bettman bragging every year that we’re making ‘record revenue, record revenue, record this,’ and all of a sudden they want to take a quarter of what you’ve made away. That doesn’t make sense to anybody. It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in.” -Zach Parise of...

Afternoon Line

I've gotten a few emails lately from people who say they are Avalanche season-ticket holders. They say they will immediately cancel their season tickets once the first game is cancelled from the lockout, and they say they'll never come back. They're through, they said, with this insanity. Can't blame 'em one bit. I would absolutely do the same thing if...

The NHL's polarizing and unpopular money grab(lockout) has continued to have disastrous effects once again warranting a closer questioning and analysis of the true motivations of professional sports. As the Chicago Tribune reported, "The Winter...
