After the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Brenden Morrow and Douglas Murray in the past week, the race is on for Calgary Flames captain Jarome Iginla between the four teams he would accept a trade to — the Penguins, Bruins, Kings and Blackhawks.
Boston is in the lead for Iginla’s services, according to The Calgary Sun. Chris Stevenson of QMI Agency was told by a source from another team that the Bruins have the best odds to land Iginla.
“I think the Bruins are the front runners right now,” the source said. “With what the Penguins did the last couple of days, they’re motivated.”
The report said the Bruins would give up a package of players in the deal for the 35-year-old right wing, including Malcolm Subban. Though, Peter Chiarelli told Toucher and Rich on Wednesday morning that Boston would not trade the 2012 first-round pick. The Sun named Rich Peverley, Nathan Horton and draft picks as other pieces that could land Iginla.
