The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings are working on making a deal. TSN’s Bob McKenzie and Pierre LeBrun report that the Oilers could send Sam Gagner to Los Angles for left winger Kyle Clifford. What’s notable in this potential deal is that neither player is a pending free agent. Gagner, 24, is in the first year of a three-year deal he signed last summer with an annual salary of $4.8 million. Clifford, 23, has one year remaining on a two-year deal worth $1.075 million per season. He is a restricted free agent at the end of next season. Due to the Kings’ salary cap constraints, speculation is that the Oilers may be forced to retain some salary. Gagner has six goals and 17 assists in 45 games played. Clifford has five points (three goals and two assists) in 48 games. The post Report: Oilers, Kings discussing Sam Gagner trade appeared first on Sports Glory.

Sam Gagner focusing on helping Oilers win games, rather than trade speculation

Sam Gagner is not oblivious to the rumours. The Edmonton Oilers centre knows his named is being associated with all types of trades scenarios as the Olympic roster freeze approaches. “It’s something where you try and block it out,” Gagner said. “I think it’s an easier thing to do the further you are from the trade deadline, but as it creeps up, it’s sometimes hard....

Oilers Inspired By Other Teams Where Failure Led To Success

The Edmonton Oilers had three straight first overall picks. They followed it up with the seventh overall pick last year. This year, it seems that their pick this year will once again be top-5. Sure, that enables you to rack up a lot of great players, but if you’re unable to be successful with those type of players, it’s really a waste of time. That is the situation the Oilers...

Newcomer Matt Hendricks encouraged to bring his voice to the Oilers

It wasn’t just Matt Hendricks’ grit that appealed to the Edmonton Oilers, but his leadership abilities as well. Yet, even leaders sometimes need adjustment periods. Just over two weeks into his tenure with the Oilers, Hendricks is beginning to feel more himself, comfortable with expressing his thoughts with his new team. “I think the guys have been very welcoming, the organization...

Edmonton Oilers get late winner from Nail Yakupov in New York

Nail Yakupov made a pretty strong case to stay on the Edmonton Oilers' top line. The Russian winger, who has spent more time in the doghouse than Lassie this season, scored the game winner Thursday, lifting the Oilers to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Yakupov netted the winner with 1:38 to go in the third period, one-timing a Sam Gagner pass over the shoulder of Rangers...

Oiler Dilemma: 2nd Line Centre

Shaun Maddex Edmonton Oilers Writer Everyone in Edmonton has jumped on the Trade Gagner bandwagon, and I have been driving that for at least three years. But then I started thinking, where is the replacement for second line centre coming from? Jonathan Willis at oilersnation.com has a great article up talking about how the rumored deal with the Kings would be a disaster in terms...

Secondary scorers showing up for Edmonton Oilers

Obviously, there are many components of success that are either regularly missing from the Edmonton Oilers’ collective game or only available in spurts. One item on the long list is balanced scoring, not merely relying on the speed and skill of the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins-Taylor Hall-Jordan Eberle trio to carry that payload. That means steadier production from the Sam Gagner-David...

Oilers swaps wingers on first and second lines

The Edmonton Oilers have been struggling to generate offence, so they’ve decided to try something different. On Thursday, when they take on the New York Rangers in the third of a four-game road trip, David Perron will play with Sam Gagner and Jordan Eberle on the second line. Nail Yakupov will be moved up to the top line with Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. “I played with...

Matt Henderson: It Was A Mistake To Make Ference The Captain

I think the Oilers made a mistake naming Andrew Ference their Captain, and I mean that with all due respect. I am not going to argue that Ference is a bad player or a bad pro, far be that from the truth. That said, this is not his team. ON FERENCE The Captain Ference is a veteran of 815 NHL games and could definitely hit the 1000 plateau before his career is finished (Barring...

Sam Gagner rumours to L.A. Kings are picking up steam

According to various media sources, including TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers are in serious talks about a trade that would send centre Sam Gagner to Tinsel Town. It’s no Gretzky Trade, but hey, this one…Read more →The post Sam Gagner rumours to L.A. Kings are picking up steam appeared first on The Hockey Daily.

Oilers potential trade of Sam Gagner could net Kyle Clifford from Los Angeles Kings, TSN’s McKenzie says

A.J. Jakubec is a radio guy from Ottawa and Bob McKenzie is hockey’s most connected reporter. That’s a slot of smoke around one trade rumour, but then this Gagner rumour has been threatening to combust for a few weeks now. On one level this trade rumour makes sense, in that the Los Angeles Kings need skill badly and the Edmonton Oilers need size and toughness badly. Let...

Jason Lewis: Sam Gagner Rumors Pick Up as Kings Close in on Final Game Before Sochi

The LA Kings are up against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight for the final game before the Olympic break, a hot Columbus Blue Jackets I might add. Despite being an important contest for the team tonight all the talk seems to be circling around supposed trade talks with the Edmonton Oilers over center Sam Gagner. BTW, @mayorNHL reported earlier this week that LA was looking...

Oilers-Devils Preview

The Edmonton Oilers are likely going to enter the Olympic break with more confidence than any other last-place team in hockey. Winners of five of their last six, the Western Conference-worst Oilers will try to skate into a three-week layoff with one more win Friday night as they complete a four-game East Coast trip against the slumping New Jersey Devils. Edmonton (20-33-6) improved...

Edmonton Oilers forward Nail Yakupov using defence to gain more offence

Nail Yakupov seems to be getting it. The Edmonton Oilers winger is realizing the key to a good offensive game is to spend as little time in the defensive zone as possible. Playing with two of the team’s best players doesn’t hurt either. “I think the improvements are slow and steady,” said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins. “I think he fully understands where he needs to...

Sam Gagner can ignore rumours during Olympic roster freeze

The rumour mill should subside for the moment. At least until the 2014 Sochi Olympics are over and the NHL roster freeze comes to an end. At that point, anyone with a Twitter account can speculate on trades, sending players to wherever they chose. On Thursday, Sam Gagner was the name bandied about on the social media network after former Edmonton Oil Kings play-by-play announcer...
