from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, Jamie Benn, P.K. Subban and Ryan O’Reilly remained unsigned Tuesday as the season hurled itself into warp speed, thanks to a compressed schedule.  Of the three RFAs, my gut feeling says Benn will be the first of the three to sign. But that’s not sure thing.  I just don’t think they’re that far apart.  Look no further than the obvious comparables to see which deals are influencing this negotiation:  • John Tavares, six years, $33 million ($5.5 million average)  • Evander Kane, six years, $31.5 million ($5.25 million cap hit)  • Phil Kessel, five years, $27 million ($5.4 million cap hit)  Those are good comparisons because Benn is also coming off an entry-level contract and is a key offensive force on his team, just like those three players.  continued plus additional hockey topics...

Eklund: What is Benn Worth in Contract... or in Trade?

The longer that Jamie Benn goes unsigned in Dallas, the more the Stars are being inundated with a variety of inquiries about whether the team would consider trading his rights. That's just how it goes, as teams try to feel out what it would take to land the burgeoning first-line center and the Stars at least formulate backup plans in case someone blows them away with an offer...

Stars G points to score after losing shutout bid

Dallas Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen was a one man wrecking crew against the Detroit Red Wings last night.  In the Wings home opener, Lehtonen stopped 39 of 40 shots, and was actually 3.4 seconds away from getting a shutout.  This would have been the Wings first shutout loss in their home opener since 1947.Damien Brunner recorded his first NHL goal off this beautiful pass from Pavel...

Te’o's girlfriend spotted at Dallas Stars game

There she is! On the Jumbotron!

Eklund: Subban and Habs Talking 6 years, roughly 4 per?

Various sources telling me a deal could be in the works...far from definite at this point...checking.

Kari Lehtonen Stars In Dallas Win Over Detroit

Paul here for George who hope to return by Thursay... Lehtonen was brilliant tonight (40 saves), only giving up 1 goal to Damien Brunner with 4 seconds left in the game. Jimmy Howard was very good, but the Stars made the most of their opportunities to defeat Detroit 2-1. One stat stands-out to me, the Wings are 0-15 on the pp over their first three games (0-4 tonight). They...

NHL’s Dallas Stars poke fun of Manti Te’o

It seems everybody has a Manti Te’o joke to crack these days. The art of Te’oing has also, begrudgingly, become a thing people do as well. The concept is simple, in that a guy poses with his invisible girlfriend and posts the picture of the fictitious couple on the Internet for all to have a good laugh about. It’s one thing for regular Joes to do it, but what about when an...

Stars get stuck in Detroit

The Dallas Stars beat the Red Wings 2-1 and then had to spend the night in Detroit due to an engine problem on the plane they were going to use. Stars spokesman Greg Ramirez says the team was scheduled to fly back to Dallas on Wednesday afternoon and canceled practice. Ramirez says the team is safe and ''everyone is fine.'' The flight following Tuesday night'...

Kari Lehtonen Points to Scoreboard After Red Wings Fans Taunt Him for Losing Shutout (Video)

Kari Lehtonen was just a few seconds away from picking up his first shutout of the 2013 season, against the Detroit Red Wings no less. It wasn’t in the cards for the Dallas Stars goalie, though, as Damien Brunner scored with 3.4 seconds left to ruin the shutout. That’s a bummer, sure, but at least the Stars came away with a 2-1 win. Apparently Red Wings fans sitting near the...

Matthew Barry: P.K. Subban to the Kings?

Mitchell is getting older - Scuderi is in the final year of his contract - Subban and Doughty for the next 5-6 years would be just brutal to the opponents of the Western Conference. If the Habs ARE willing to deal P.K., a Western Conference team would make sense. Is P.K. a Dean Lombardi "right fit?" What would it cost Lombardi? They don't need Bernier and its...

AHL and CHL Prospect Report and The Week Ahead 1/21-1/27

Texas Stars The Texas Stars entered the week without a majority of their key players as they were with the Dallas Stars. The gutted roster didn’t really miss a beat though as they won two of their three games last week and showed a season high outburst of offense in their final two games. The Stars dropped their first game of the week 4-1 but bounced back with a vengeance...

Brad Ratgen: Parise Paying Dividends and Harding-Backstrom: Tandem or Transition?

After Sunday's 1-0 victory over the Dallas Stars, I turned on other hockey games just to wind down. I caught the end of Vancouver-Edmonton which went to a shootout and then tuned into Phoenix-Chicago, a run and gun affair. Clearly, the Phoenix-Chicago game was tons of fun to watch as a hockey fan in general and fan of neither team specifically. And it was tons different than...

Lehtonen nearly perfect as Stars edge Red Wings

DETROIT -- He didn't get the shutout, but Kari Lehtonen got the win. Lehtonen came within less than four seconds of a his 22nd career whitewashing, making 39 saves, and Michael Ryder scored both goals in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night. Rookie Damien Brunner ruined Lehtonen's shutout attempt by scoring his first...

Stars 2, Red Wings 1

DETROIT -- Kari Lehtonen came within less than four seconds of a shutout, making 39 saves, and Michael Ryder scored both goals in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night. Rookie Damien Brunner ruined Lehtonen's shutout attempt by scoring his first NHL goal, with 3.4 seconds left. It came off a goal-mouth scramble. Cody...

Bill Meltzer: Stars Gameday: 1/22/13 @ Red Wings

PREVIEW 6:45 AM CST The Dallas Stars worked hard on opening weekend to manage a split of their back-to-back games against the Phoenix Coyotes and Minnesota Wild. Tonight, they are in action for the third time in four nights as they head to Motown to take on the Detroit Red Wings. The Wings got humiliated (6-0) by St. Louis in their opener on Saturday, but rebounded last night...
