Very quick blog for now; please forgive. I'll write something longer and much more interesting after tonight's Oilers/Wings tilt. Here's a few quick notes to keep you entertained in the mean time.
Are They In or Out?
Hearing again Detroit will be looking close at Ales Hemsky during tonight's game. The reason? The Wings have been trying to acquire a big, meaty forward for their Top 6, but there...

Hemsky On The Trade Block
The NHL trade deadline is February 27th. It is two and a half weeks away. One of the big name players who is likely to be moved is Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers. The Edmonton media is writing pieces to prepare their fans for this inevitability. This is likely not such a smart move. Tyler Dellow writes two intelligent pieces on this situation here and here.
Hemsky...
Questions Still Surround NHL First Star of the Week Sam Gagner
The Edmonton Oilers have received plenty of league wide attention for the past few years, but it was never for a good or positive reason. But, that’s what 2 consecutive last place finishes will do.
Slowly, things have been changing. Monday’s game in the “centre of the universe” also known as Tornonto Ontario drew a media storm to not only the game, but also...
Trade Rumor: Mixed signals of Edmonton Oilers’ Ryan Smyth waiving no-trade clause scenario
With trade rumors circulating the last couple of days involving Ryan Smyth of the Edmonton Oilers, all the evidence on the table may not amount to the veteran agreeing to being shipped out as a rental player. (See: Rangers.)
The rumor suggests the New York Rangers are seeking his services through the playoffs in a very competitive run.
He may consider it, reports say.
Despite Smyth...
Oilers C Nugent-Hopkins to miss 7-10 days with shoulder injury
Edmonton Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will miss 7-10 days with a sprained shoulder, the team announced Tuesday. The rookie left in the third period of last night's game with the Toronto Maple Leafs after re-aggravating a left shoulder injury. It was just his second game back in the Oilers lineup after missing the previous 13 contests with the shoulder problem.Nugent-Hopkins...
Why trading Ales Hemsky is a bad idea
If you live in Edmonton, it’s hard not to turn on the radio, check twitter or read most blogs without seeing someone demand that Ales Hemsky be traded and a list of trades, that person has come up with inside their head. I have a few problems with all of this. First off, most of the suggested trades stink. If the Oilers need anything, it...
Leafs Looks Like A Playoff Team
Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun discuss whether the Leafs’ playoff push, the Oilers’ trade options and the Lightning’s decisions at the deadline.
Scott Burnside: Greetings, mon ami. You saw a pretty interesting hockey game last night in Toronto as the Leafs bested the streaking Edmonton Oilers (OK, streaking is a relative term when it comes to the Oilers) by a...
Will Oilers’ Ryan Smyth waive no-trade clause for shot at Stanley Cup?
Edmonton Oilers forward Ryan Smyth has plenty of playoff experience and plays a gritty style of hockey that’s perfectly suited for the post-season. So it is no surprise that, as ESPN’s Scott Burnside...
Richard Cloutier: Oilers Lose The Most Oiler Game of the Season
If you want to know how the Oilers season has been so far, all you needed to do is watch last night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was very "Oilers".
Good Oilers
- Jordan Eberle was ridiculous. Scored twice; should have had four on the night. He absolutely gave the Leafs fits every time he touched the puck. For someone who isn't suppose to be a...
Richard Cloutier: Trades! Explosions! Kung-Fu Grips!
In Wednesday night hockey action, Sam Gagner beat the Detroit Red Wings 2-0. Unfortunately, the rest of the Oilers lost to the Detroit Red Wings by 0-4.
Here's a bunch of random comments on the frustration that is the Edmonton Oilers.
- Eberle is in the Top 10 in league scoring, and Sam Gagner is ripping up the NHL right now. Yet, five Oiler forwards had more ice-time during...

Doubled Down Again
Oilers lose 4-2 to Red Wings
At least Sam Gagner has been on fire lately. With two goals from Gagner, the Oilers may have been shutout by the hockey giant Red Wings. But, thankfully for the Oilers, Gagner has been incredible lately. Incredible enough to make many forget then he only had 5 goals up until a week ago. Now, he has 11.
